Could JJ Redick REALLY Be The CHANGE The Toronto Raptors Need?

The Toronto Raptors shocked the basketball world after it was revealed the team interviewed former NBA player and ESPN analyst JJ Redick for the vacant head coaching position to replace Nick Nurse. Masai Ujiri and the Raptors front office have been putting in work for their head coaching search with a number of interesting candidates like Adrian Griffin and Becky Hammon, but not many could have seen this coming.

JJ Redick has been sought after previously as an assistant coach in the NBA but has never taken up the opportunity likely as a result of his ventures into the content creation game which helped land him that prominent role at ESPN. As a result, he has no professional coaching experience but clearly, he is a man who possesses extensive knowledge about the intricacies of the game.

Does he have what it takes to step up into the huge role to lead the Toronto Raptors as their next head coach? Would this be a good decision by Masai Ujiri?

  1. Its kinda Jerry's turn in a way as he has run a successful 905 squad, won a few times as well in the G league. He has ties to Siakam and Vanvleet winning a championship with them plus knows the young players well. JJ was a great player is an awesome analyst however hiring a first time coach over the potential candidates would be wierd. If we hired him as an assistant let him get it in for the first time then groom him to be the coach to win chips, like we did with Nurse.

  2. It's been speculated that some of our assistant coaches will not be returning next year. I think Stackhouse is the best candidate for Head Coach. I can definetly see JJ being an Assistant Coach for us. He would be a great mentor towards our players, especially Jordan Hawkins if we drafted him. Both have similar games.

  3. People keep saying coaching experience, he played for multiple coaches over 15 seasons. I think he’ll be ok.

  4. Lets keep it real JJ is not a better option than Becky, Becky is ultimately the best option and has the best credentials on top of that.

JJ got the interview with the Raptors from Fred Vanvleet asking Masai to give him an interview to try and find a coaching job in the NBA. If you doubt this go watch how he reacts to when anybody says a down thing about Fred the man snaps, they clearly boys.

Jerry wont be our HC. Most likely he ends up in Detroit with Casey whos coaching tree Jerry is from on top of his best years as a player came from when he played on Detroit.

  5. JJ as an assistant coach next to Becky Hammon as HC would be great.. but it's far fetched from reality 😅
