Teams still aren’t allowed to sign players to rookie extensions until after year 3 and it kicks in after year 4. That’s what I don’t think you understand that rule did not change from what I’ve seen and by that time J Dub isn’t taking less money than Tyler Herro and Poole got 3 years prior. It’s cool to be positive about the future but it’s a miscalculation to think with the rising salary cap a player like him would take only 20-30 mil when a guy like Tyrese Maxey is likely to sign for 40 million a year average this summer two years earlier than when J Dub will be eligible. I’m not sure what the confusion is why would J Dub lock into a discounted contract and just hope and pray he gets more money when he’s 29-30 years old on the next contract that makes no sense. Y’all said J dub is going to an MVP level player or at least All-Star if you still believe that prepare yourself for him to get maxed out he’s already worth the contract you are talking about if he didn’t even improve from what he is right now. Tyrese Maxey is getting ~200mil and he’s not even a top 30 player. The same things I just said applys to Giddey too assuming his defensive issues lessen going forward. There are lots of things in the new CBA that benefit the Thunder but getting blue chip players to sign well below market value early isn’t a provision they put it, this league is empowering the players to make as much money as they can and discounted contracts with hopes of getting a larger deal 5-6 years after you sign your extension isn’t a thing players count on. Sure for some guys taking a guaranteed deal before they get a chance to fully break out to ensure they get paid happens but not as often as you think and not with players with obvious All-Star upside and a near star floor. I’m pretty sure I’m on the right track about this J Dub is on a way different level as a player and prospect than DeAndre Hunter who got 4yrs 95mil and he’s probably not even a top 70 player in the NBA. I explained already on other video comments how the 2nd extension 40% increase is now a thing instead of 20% and for rookie extensions it can now be 5 years not 4 that would give a team an extra year of team control and possibly save them money on that 5th year not having to negotiate and start a new contract that year which is how is was with the 4 year extensions. There are also things to do with luxury tax in new cba that benefit the Thunder but I’m not sure why you keep coming back to early discounted extensions for star players I’m almost certain that’s not a realistic thing
the regulations do not exist for OKC as single team (I know team Flatt were not ignoring this)
Sam Presti knows the team will need some dowel/widget glue-guys like PJ Tucker Jai Crowder , a playoff Rondo , and a guy like Klay Thompson to be the preeminent 3&D , a 2015 McKee , a Jimmy Butler , and look to move aside some of these key draftees we have now for a SGA run with SantaClara as his Robin , atm I think only SantaClara and SGA have automatic spots for deep playoff tilts in next five years , you have two league MVPs on your roster right there , Presti needs the correct ammo to surround those two I hope Chet JGidd Dieng but the fit may not be right ,
I think all of his draftpicks as assets are for use to trade/recruit a #piece
a Butler , a Rondo , a PJ Tucker , a Brook Lopez … I don't know what player the piece will be …
but think , only 9 man rotation (even Daigz) 15 suit up for road(+home) two G-League on two-ways , some housed overseas , my point , there will be a time starting in 3 years when emphasis on the roster .c.h.a.n.g.e.s. from development to "win now" … ofcourse there is a happy-medium and you can still do both , but the emphasis and scale shifts , Poku won't get those 2020/21 minutes in OKC Thunder NBA team
See the picks Minnesota wasted on Rudy Gubert , Presti has some picks to bring in his needed glue-guys like Jimmy if he has Klay to be the marksman he was next to him , Isaiah Joe and Tre Mann might be championship calibre snipers , but count the number of championship calibre snipers over the last decade and a half , Klay Curry Thompson Allen Poole … not many are there , SGA does not need the snipers , indeed if the command the ball like Klay and Curry it takes it out of SGA's hands ,
There are no .R.I.G.H.T. scientific answers , only estimates and calibrated estimate risk v rewards
And Dave I do agree with you this small nod by the Adam Silver front-office was a nod to minor-markets not to lose players to NYC SanFran Chi LA Miami
and over-the-top™ WIREstreaming of games with NBA's influx of international players means expand a team's fanbase
(remember I said Cuban buys his European players for <unders>) plus Dirk and Luka less likely to jump ship for bright lights of NYC or LA
Presti has Saric Dort SGA JGidd , a little less likely to leave even with Toronto in the league
I hope all our perimeter players get hot hands like the Sacramento redhead who came from ? Maryland(?) Tarps , and Washington(?)
It's a positive nod from Adam Silver , and not looking to major markets with unfettered coffers
Podcast intro music?! That's an evolution for sure. Love to see the experimentation. I'm digging it. Perhaps the music volume could be a smidge lower but otherwise that's sounding nice 🙂
Most people in Australia follow other teams with Australians on it as there is a surprising amount of Australian players in the NBA, 8 on the post season even
