Paul Pierce and Kyle Lowry’s last-second battle to determine who’s going home needs a deep rewind

The 2014 Nets and Raptors had a lot in common! They both have a history of terrible records. They both started the year in an embarrassing fashion. And they’re both facing elimination in the first round of the playoffs. Seeing as how it’s at each other’s hands, I don’t think they’ll be bonding anytime soon.

And besides, their differences are more defining. The Nets spent lavishly to boast one of the best (in theory) rosters in the league. Their starting 5 at the beginning of the year was Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Brook Lopez. That’s 5 all-stars.

Whereas the Raptors have a quiet payroll that supports one all-star (DeMar DeRozan), a bunch of young guys, and a point guard who was their second choice and they tried to trade away. (Kyle Lowry)

To find out how these similar but different teams got this win-or-go-home battle, we have to rewind.

  1. Jokes on them. The Raptors had the last laugh and won it in 2019.

The previous opponents Nets, Hawks, Wizards, 76ers, Celtics are still grinding for the chip.

  2. Also the Raptors really misses Lowry now. As a 25 years Raptors fan, we took him for granted. Last time Lowry was with the Raptors we did amazing with mout kawahi.

Look at Miami Heat, along with Jimmy, Lowry never fails to boosts the teams morale.

  3. Please get rid of the female narrator. This is like Doris Burke commentating the finals instead of Mike Breen

  4. Not sure why I would want to relive such a vividly painful moment from my past…but lets do this!!

  5. one of the most irrelevant moments that did not need a deep dive into, 1st round of nba playoffs in the east at the time of lebron automatically in the finals year after year. the fan bases of these teams dont even remember this happening

  6. Ah, man, I wish I was watching the NBA at this time. Looked like an amazing game 7

  7. If you were to pick any NBA storyline to tell from beginning to end and play Bullshit-Bingo alongside it, my chart would have "The Knicks front office being incompetent" in the center square. Seriously, it's amazing how often that trope creeps into any NBA story.

  8. That fake 3-dimensional thing on the baseline always pissed me off and made me root against the Raptors back then. Yeah I’m autistic and I won’t apologize

  9. Lowry is hof for me. His clutch gene is unbelievable.

Also, in one of my ultimate 2k redraft runs, him, post injury Drose, and 313 Blake Griffin spearheaded my team to the finals, only to lose in 6… incase you were interested.
