What The NBA Draft Lottery REALLY Means For The Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors did not have the lottery gods on their side in the 2023 NBA draft lottery and stayed put with the 13th overall pick for the upcoming NBA draft. Fans had their dreams over the potential of selecting Victor Wembanyama but they fell short of the laughable 1% chance.

The Raptors had a disappointing season and fans were even more disappointed that their draft position was sacrificed just to still not have a high-caliber lottery pick but despite all of that there is still potential talent for Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster’s front office to capitalize on.

Here is how the draft lottery affected the Raptors and their future ambitions and a few interesting guards they could STILL select in the 13th spot.

  1. I don’t know if they would when last year they offered the 7th for OG I would trade OG for the third pick if he isn’t gonna resign with the 13th pick hopefully we get Keyonte George or Rayan Rupert

  2. The Raptors will either select Bilal Coulibaly or Rayan Rupert. Remember who said it. These are Masai type of players. This guy doesn’t pick the players everybody say’s he should. At every draft we’re left like who ? Why ? “We could have traded down for that guy” Remember when Masai flew out to France and everybody was saying he was scouting Wemby ? I think he was actually scouting Coulibaly because they’re on the same team. He likely knew we weren’t getting the first pick. Don’t be shocked if you hear with the 13th pick the Toronto Raptors select Bilal Coulibaly.

  3. Flynn stays for necessity and Banton is basically done, Nurse wasted his development time. I prefer Keyonte George or Kris Murray but I feel they will side with defense which means Cason Wallace. Cason's defense is good but offensively he is adequate

  4. Absolutely blatant tank by POR. TOR can't do that. Who even watches the Blazers, no one. Everybody in Canada watches the Raps. We need to put up competitive basketball for the causuals to still watch and provide ratings. Honestly, I don't wanna watch tank BBall again. The 4-10 order was a crapshoot with all teams within 5 games of each other. What if we tanked and got like 9th or 10th pick. Not worth it!

For me, there is not much of a drop-off from Miller, Henderson & Whitmore to Wallace, Hawkins & George. The real problem was chemistry and ball-sharing with the Raps. One good draft pick can't change that. We have talent but lack the it factor from the 48-win season.

What i'm really looking for is gettting another pick like the CHI pick that ORL is getting at 11. Maybe a trade with IND for OG or POR with Siakam. #3 and #7 pick is not going to return a OG/Siakam level talent in the first 2-3 years. IND and POR maybe looking for a win now move. WAS and DAL could aldo be potential trade partners if Beal and Luka become impatient with the roster.

  5. Raps could trade OG to Indy and get their 3 picks 7-26-29. Plus Raps pick 13 the rebuild could be complete.

  6. So many people in this chat so down on this team for getting the 13th pick there are plenty of good prospects in this draft between 3- 13 or 14 we can definitely get a good prospect i agree i think wallace would be amazing for this team and then trade fred for a shooter and a first this team just really improves maybe we get someone like gradey dick to improve our shooting a little they jave moves to make for sure its the 13th pick not the 60th

  7. If Raptors fans still think that tanking is the best option, just look at the Pistons.

  8. First thing in the off season:
    1. sign and trade Fred, or let him go.
    2. draft a 6'4+ tall guard (enough of midget guards).
    3. perhaps trade OG (and maybe Siakam) to get young talents, or that 3rd pick from Portland.

  9. Lots of opportunity for movement here.

At the draft, I'm looking for Cason Wallace or Kobe Bufkin. If neither of these guys are available and there are no surprise fallers, we should trade down with Brooklyn for 21 & 22. Colby Jones is going to be a NBA rotation guy and you might be able to scoop Leonard Miller, Brandin Podziemski or Sidy Cissoko down there as well.

Pacers seem willing to shop their picks. OG played college ball in Indiana and they own 7, 26 and 29.

Pascal to the Blazers for TWO of #3, Simons or Sharpe is possible as well.

Dallas at #10 will undoubtedly be for sale too. Plus they have Green and Hardy.

If we dont come out of this with a blue chipper, the FO did something wrong.
