  1. I'm a fan of Naz, and think it has been a bit sad seeing him get dropped backwards at the Wolves this season. Reckon he would be a very solid addition, and would def have something to prove if traded.

  2. Sign kuzma and sasha. Trade away holmes and let all free agents walk other than lyles. Draft bilal coulibaly and a back up big and pg with our second round picks

  3. On their current roster, the Kings have 6 valuable to untouchable players. In order of importance they are Fox, Sabonis, Murray, Monk, Huerter and Mitchell. Harrison Barnes would make 7 but he's a UFA and may have as much or more value in a sign and trade deal, we can look at that later.

We have 6 UFA’s besides Barnes. They are Davis, Deli, Dozier, Len, Metu, and Lyles. Deli is already gone to Australia. Ellis and Queta are Restricted Free Agents. I think Lyles is an absolute keeper as a PF and rarely as a C. I would also keep Queta as our 3rd Center. Lyles probably needs a raise to keep him and Queta will too, but to a much smaller extent. Say $1m a year for Lyles and $250k for Queta. If you let the rest of them go to other teams, you save about $13.5 m.

We have about $19.5 m in hard cap space we can also use and still avoid a Luxury Tax, bringing our total to $33 m to secure 6-7 more players. If you let Barnes walk or do a sign and trade deal, you save another $22 million bringing the total to $55 million, or you pay for a top flight player in trade. If you can trade Holmes you save another $12-$13m, for a maximum savings of about $67 m in hard cap salary savings.

If you make all these moves, the team will need a back-up Center between Sabonis and Queta. You need a starting and third string Power forward. You need 2 back-up Small Forwards behind Murray. You need a 3rd Point Guard. You need a 3rd Shooting guard. You could also move Sabonis to PF and try to get a starting C, and then you would need only a 3rd PF (Option 2).

    Let’s start with Center.
The sexy FA picks would be Poetl or Plumlee. We got killed on the boards by the Warriors in the playoffs and I’m not sure either helps with defense or rebounding, But they spread the floor and would be good on the 2nd unit behind Sabonis. I like two other choices, especially if you move Sabonis to PF. Xavier Tillman and Naz Reid are both big bodied tough nosed defenders and will go after rebounds to complement Sabonis at PF. Poetl and Plumlee can be got for less than $10m probably. Reid and Tillman can be got for around $3 m. There is no trade out there for a top 5 Center. You could get Brook Lopez for around $15 m, but he’ll turn 36 next season and he may stay with the Bucks anyway. I’m not sure he’s the answer in terms of team building.

Let’s look at Power Forward now.
The biggest name is Draymond Green, who has a $27.5 m player option. He probably will exercise it, but if he doesn’t the Warriors will probably match any offer he gets from another team. Not sure this is even worth looking at since he’s old, expensive, can’t score and his ball distribution skills aren’t needed on the Kings.

The name that pops up the most is Jerami Grant. Now he is young enough to warrant a 4 year offer. The cost is probably $25 m escalating to $30 m, maybe more. He is an all star, but honestly on the Kings he will be the 3rd or 4th option and I doubt he will score any better than Barnes has and has never rebounded or assisted any better than Barnes. He’s a little smaller than Barnes who plays almost every game. Jerami Grant misses too much time. So if you want a 6’8” 210 PF, keep Barnes, save money, and know he will be dependable.

So here’s a better guy in free agency . . . Rui Hachimura. He just needed to get off the Wizards, and he has played great for the Lakers. He’s 25 so he fits age wise with the Kings’ core. He is about the same size as Barnes. He’ll cost ⅓ to ½ as much as Barnes. The bonus is you subtract from the Lakers. He doesn’t score as well as Barnes, but he’s developing and probably will in the next year or so.

If you want to spend some of your money at this position, a sign and trade of Harrison Barnes to the Hawks for John Collins to me is the best bet, at around $25 m per year. You’d probably need to throw in a lesser back-up player to match salaries, and maybe our two 2nd rounders in the 2023 draft. Heck, even the 1st rounder would be ok. Collins is a little bigger than Barnes and has averaged 10 rebounds for his career. He can defend, and he scores better than Barnes. He’s under contract through 25/26. Pascal Saikhim is arguably better but he costs 50% more ($38M!) and is a free agent after next year. He’d have to do a sign and trade deal too, or he’s probably just a 1 year rental. Julius Randle is a good player who is wildly inconsistent and seems to disappear in the playoffs, so, no. None of the other top 10 Power Forwards are available.

    Small Forward:
The Kings are set long term with Keegan Murray at Small Forward. They already have rights to Aleksander Vezenkov from the Euro League who looks like he might really be something special. I like Torrie Craig, Cam Johnson, and am intrigued by Cam Reddish. It probably takes $10 m or more to pry away Johnson, the best of the bunch. I think you could get Craig and Reddish for $5-7m. You could try for Kyle Kuzma, but he’s not gonna wanna play back up, nor should he (could be the same for Johnson). Kelly Oubre is another option at about $13-16 m, but that’s a lot of money for a really good back up. I like the draft for this position. How about drafting Kris Murray? Julian Strawther, Jaime Jacquez, Jalen Bridges, and Chris Livingston should all be available. Baba Miller might slip too and he is really intriguing at 6’11”.

    Shooting Guard:
Red Velvet (Huerter) and the Microwave (Monk) are a pretty darn good 1-2 combo. So you only need a 3rd. Matisse Thybulle for defense and scoring development? Bring back Donte? Or steal Lonnie Walker IV from the Lakers?

    Point Guard:
DeAaron Fox is set as an all-NBA point guard. Davion Mitchell is a little undersized, but defends big and has a good looking shot that is starting to fall more. So you need a 3rd point guard. Here’s 4 names that would provide veteran presence at $1-$4m. Reggie Jackson, Dennis Smith, Dennis Shroeder (pirate from the Lakers, yay!), and Austin Rivers are all upgrades on the court to Delivadova. They don’t provide as much in terms of leadership and the intangibles, but the Kings are another year older, more experienced, and wiser.

To get any big name player you'd have to damage or break up the core of your team and probably sacrifice depth. However, if LeBron wants to come to us as a free agent, I'm sure we'll be happy to draft his sonS!

  4. I don’t think moving Sabonis to the 4 is the answer. Getting somebody like OG or a Draymond type player able to guard a teams best player and space the floor is really what we need to keep Sabonis dominate in the paint
