Now look at his defensive metrics (or you know, watch him on defense) and you’ll see why he’s actually properly rated. You can argue he’s a better defender than Dame but that’s like saying Malachi Flynn is a better defender than Trae Young.
The other thing to keep in mind is the sample size of him as the lead guard is very limited so defenses will adjust to him as one’s lead guard vs. him filling in on occasion when Dame is injured. Can he sustain 28/3/6 on a good AST/TO ratio? Sure, his shotmaking is legit and he’s a good passer, but it’s not guaranteed and when he’s undersized/bad at defense, it kind of makes it hard to play a backcourt with him and another undersized point guard who doesn’t play defense i.e. the CJ McCollum dilemma we’re seeing repeat itself with Anfernee.
I like Simons a lot! But he’s pretty fairly rated, all things considered.
[Kevin] is making me laugh
His advanced metrics paint a much less inspirational picture. I’ve seen this movie before. More well rounded players please.
Wish we got this guy at the deadline
Anybody know if he had good chemistry with GTJ in Portland? They were drafted there together.
Iāll take Simons , explosive young guard who can shoot and has playmaking abilities
God knows we fucking needed that
Watching Jordan Poole in the Lakers series should slow down everyone’s enthusiasm for a small guard who scored in bunches against second units but can’t defend that well. The profile has value but also has a ceiling…..
