Interesting take Dave. Respectfully I’ll disagree. Rupert was effectively unplayable for NZ in the finals series in the nbl and he fell out of the rotation. Sydney physically beat him up to the point they targeted him defensively anytime he was on the court. I was really high on Rupert early season but he was injured early and then somewhat struggled with his role in the rotation in a strong NZ team. Offensively he struggled to score with his jumper being streaky. While he may pan out as a late first rounder or a second rounder, top 20 is too early. This may be one of the instances where watching full games vs highlight packages gives a differing perspective.
Rayan rupert is really good friends with ousmane dieng, they both were at INSEP together. If we drafted him they would help each other be comfortable in Okc. ALSO, Rayan went to the New Zealand breakers just like dieng. That’s one of the biggest reasons presti loved dieng was for taking the challenge of leaving France for a professional league in another country to get better. See a parallel here!!! Also the coach of the nzb said that rayan is the hardest worker he’s ever coached. For all these reasons this screams presti pick to me.
