Rockets Rumors: No. 4 Draft Pick Expected to Be Used as ‘Trade Bait,’ NBA Execs Say

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, “with Houston preparing to make an aggressive push to sign James Harden this summer, rival NBA executives believe this pick will be used as trade bait as the Rockets look to take a significant step forward next season.”

Harden has been linked to a potential return to Houston at times this season, although the Philadelphia 76ers’ decision to fire head coach Doc Rivers following a second-round loss to the Boston Celtics may impact the guard’s future.

Let’s see if Masai likes Amen more than Brandon Miller. At least it might give us more options. I think Pistons might also be shopping the #5 pick but that one is meh

Feel so bad for draft picks 3-8 lol. They have no idea where they are going.

    OG and Pascal are traded

We end up with 3, 4, and 13.

    Then what? Package for 1?

I could see a scenario where they get siakam for the 4th, sign harden and another all star level player. Not entirely sure of their cap situation at all but that would be a great haul for them.

What’s the temperature on the Harden rumours? I imagine the Rockets will also try to gun for Fred if Harden indicates he’ll stay in Philly.

This is going to be an important scouting process for the Raps FO. They’ve seemed to be able to find some of the top performers in their position consistently, so if any of the top guys after Scoot pop out to them I can see a trade happening. If they aren’t amazed by one of the Thompson twins or Miller though then there’s no way they are moving Siakam for one of these picks.

The 7th pick from Indiana however could be much cheaper and still bring another highly rated prospect, and one Masai would take at 3/4 anyway

Draft Amen and use him as a bait to lure Ausar down the road.

Alright alright, well take the 4 too.

Goodbye OG and Siakam, hello 3 and 4 picks.

    Jalen Green + 2023 Draft pick + 2024 Draft pick + filler.

That’s the only way that I see Masai making this trade, you need a young player with a high upside to make it happen, otherwise, there are better trades to be made.

I like the Portland trade better because even if Simmons doesn’t turn into an All-Star, he’s already an elite role player and he makes the perfect #3 type player, the spacing that he and OG would provide would pair well with Scotties ability to play make, imagine Scottie kicking it out to Simmons, OG and GTJ, it would be a nightmare for opposing defenses IMO and if we could draft Scoot it would add another dimension to this team! FML that would be great!

We could potentially go from the worst shooting team in the NBA to one of the best:

    Simmons
    GTJ
    OG
    Scoot
    Otto
    #13 pick (draft a shooter)
Whoever they pick up in free agency

It would be a fun experiment!

Are those Harden back to Houston rumours actually true then?

It seems like there is a drop after top 3. Not to say there won’t be good players drafted after 3 but it gets a lot murkier

Houston is a no for me, they have all those young talents but they have to give us so many players for Siakam. They would just say no. And obviously OG for the 4th will be declined by Houston.

  13. BeefySwan

I don’t know why Houston would do this. Even if they land Harden, they’re at least two really solid pieces away from being a contender. Harden couldn’t get past the second round with the MVP.

  14. If that’s the case, we want to stay away and not get tricked

Good. Dilute the market for Portland’s pick
