Kerr on Klay: “Older players get to a certain age, you have to adapt. Jordan added a post game. Magic became a good shooter at the end. You have to be aware you gotta evolve…That will be the basis of my conversation with Klay this summer. Really talk to him about what he can do to evolve”

Perfect, Kerr is telling Klay he needs to start pump faking/taking contact to get to the free throw line.

Maybe the most negative thing they’ve ever said about Klay publicly, and it isn’t even that negative lol. Seems Klay is kind of in agreement, will be interesting to see how he adjusts.

If he becomes money in the mid-range (shout out S.Dot and DWest) and stops hunting those tough fall away 3s, that’d be huge. Get in the paint, maybe absorb some contact and get to the line and see the shot fall.

He’s so tall and has such a quick release that he should still be able to get his shot off, even in traffic. Obviously being guarded by different personnel, but he’s basically the same height as Livingston, no reason he can’t be automatic from the mid-range with how smooth that jumper is. Guess that’d mean more handling and self creation, so we’ll see how that goes.

“No, no, I don’t see that… he’s still a starter in this league for sure.”

Expected, and true, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Poole gets more and more impatient. Shit, he may already be. He signed that contract knowing it’d be the case, so he doesn’t really have any room to complain about being the 6th man, but if he’s still here and coming off the bench after next season, when Klay is on a new contract, maybe he starts making a stink (or more of a stink). Ain’t a guaranteed he’ll even be here through the season, probably not worth worrying about right now.

These next 2-3 years are gonna be super interesting roster construction wise. Wonder when Klay and Dray start to transition to the bench, if at all.

Just stop with the sideways drifting 3’s. All I ask.

  4. GabeHirsch

All the comments about fading sideways 3’s are just ignoring the fact that he was straight bricking wide open 3’s in the series vs the Lakers. He just gotta shoot better period

  5. NaiveNeck984

Klay did try and develop a post fade (it’s ugly as hell) this year lol

Klay would be such a great 6th man. Fresh legs every night. Blow torch for 20 mins a game.

How about asking for klay to show up in shape this season? without Klay, we don’t make the post season this year.

  8. WigglingWoof

Draymond said something similar regarding Klay and how the game changed since he’s been gone. Before he got hurt, he was an oversized SG. Now, he’s a stretch 4.

At the age of 33 he’s not evolving. And if he’s Klanking which usually is the case he’s worse than Poole. With Poole at least you can bench. You gotta ride the game with Klank. He’s too slow now. And does not provide any value on defense unless it’s a big and even that is mid. He should be coming off the bench. Period. The 1 game I’m 20 is not worth it anymore.

The only evolution left for him is to come off the bench. At the age and decline we need more plus defenders next to Steph. In the playoffs teams hunt Steph relentlessly and tire him out, Klay used to be so good but if he is a liability on defense then what is this team going to do? It’s not like his help defense has ever been good to begin with, now his on ball defense has taken a dip.

This team doesn’t have rim protection so it’s getting really rough out there and other teams are getting better. If Kerr is never benching him then Klay need an extreme reduction of role on offense and less running around screens so he is fresh to play defense and contribute in the 4th quarter. Also get fresher in the playoffs. Also He needs to fucking force Wiggins to be the real 2nd option or trade for one

Klay can get a tighter handle on the ball and become more of a willing facilitator. He can be a black hole sometimes offensively where if he touches it – the shot is going up regardless

  12. Everyone ready for sideways fading hookshot Klay?

  13. miniwyoming

LOL–where are all the Klay defenders now?

I’m never gonna stop sporting the Toaster flair. That season was the wildest ride. But…Come on. That dude is no longer the dude we used to know.

Honestly the hate my warriors get compared to other teams is crazy I love you Klay Thompson & thank you 🙏🏻

His mentality needs to evolve. He needs to humble himself a little (think Steph – low key) and play within his abilities. Ready, Fire, Aim is not going to win another championship.

  16. Practical_Sir_510

If he doesn’t agree to a discount extension this summer, he’s going to have to ball out next season to get a could good pay day. All players tend to play well in their contract year. I think he will too.

Post injury Klay evolved his game to shoot more contested 3s, heatchecks, and play heroball.
