[Tim Reynolds] : Spo stands up for the “undrafted” guys: “So disrespectful to keep on talking about them that way. Gabe’s a veteran. He’s a seasoned veteran. … He’s been with us since the bubble. That storyline is over. These guys have proven themselves as competitors and winning players.”

It’s honestly like saying: “how we letting this 2nd rounder kill us?” and you’re talking ’bout Jokic lol

  2. jakehightower

Of course Spo would say that, he’s also undrafted.

  3. ergonelsa

Based. I would literally run through a semi-dense wall for Filipino Ray Romano

  4. ajteitel

How many first rounds for Spo? He’d probably be able to unlock even Shamet.

Ok, no one is that good

  5. RanOutOfCharact

At some point this guy has to win COTY

  6. Suspicious_Afternoon

    he’s such an amazing coach

  7. It’s weird to hear it mid-game by color commentators. Vanvleet is undrafted and they bring it up during big moments, but I don’t recall hearing it every game.

Heck maybe I’m crazy but I thought I heard it more than once tonight. But then again Reggie Miller and Kevin Harlan are bad lmao.

  8. Midtownpatagonia

Doc Rivers gotta learn from this man

  9. DEEZLE13

Spo was seen scouting LA fitness guys earlier today stg

  10. yalogin

The actual question now is what percentage probability will the analysts give Miami against Denver. 2% or a whopping 5%!

  11. DankTriangle

Ya know what? Spo got that dawg in him too. He’s the dawg whisperer.

  12. GroovySandals

This is the type of leadership and support like 70% of us will never get in the work world. I love seeing shit like this.

  13. i wanna hate the heat but i love jimmy and spo man

  14. whatsthisguysdeal7

In the playoffs in baseball, they always talk about timely hitting. I feel like I’ve never seen a team as good at timely shot making as the Heat are and it’s not just one or two guys. Feels like we are totally powerless to stop them any time they absolutely need a bucket

The undrafted guys really proved me wrong. I really thought spo got enough outta the guys in the regular season and a lack of talent was just apparent compared to other teams. It was not fun watching Max Strus run PnR. It was not fun watching Caleb lose his handle driving to the rim and then have to guard 4s. It was not fun watching Gabe struggle to make passes and jack up bricks. It was not fun watching Robinson make a random appearance and brick 3s. Hayward Highsmith was all D and no offense.

But with all that said, the process of how the offense generated shots was always sound. Heat fans hated that they put up more shots than the main 3 but they were always open. Props to the team for sticking with it.

No disrespect to the HEAT, but their team is the ultimate “who the fuck is that guy” squad.

  17. boofbonzer81

I’ll say it now Spo is better than Pop

being drafted is like going to college and getting a degree then getting a job. being undrafted is like getting OTJ training without the degree. there are hundreds of talented basketball players trying to get into the league every year. not every team can take a chance on all of them. these undrafted guys went into the Heat development system and learned and grew their game. just because they weren’t drafted in the first or second round doesn’t mean they can’t ball. people gotta stop acting like Jimmy’s playing with a couple bags of Doritos.

  19. redmostofit

The silly part is there are so many players from every draft group who aren’t even in the league after a year or two. Way too much weight is placed on where a player drafted or how they got into the league. And clearly, teams make huge mistakes with draft picks all the time.

That’s my fucking boy! The feeling to see someone you know grind it out and see the success come to fruition is so damn awesome. I can only imagine what it feels like for Gabe.

Gabe Vincent is one of the kindest, genuine, hard working people I have met in my life, period. The fact that he also plays basketball at the highest level possible just blows my mind.

The level of focus and clarity it takes to stay true to you once you “get there” is insane and he always comes off cool as a cucumber.

When Miami decided to sign him to a 10 day back in 2019-20, my first thought was that just made perfect sense. He is the exact type of guy for Heat culture. Works hard, has a winners mentality at all times, and knows his role.

  21. alex_119

Everyone fighting for Wemby and Spo is out here getting to a championship with a number 30 pick as the lead, a few first rounders and a handful of undrafted guys. Fucking mental.

  22. SirFunktastic

Spo’s completely right, at this point being undrafted means absolutely nothing. They’re playing just as good, if not better than a lot of drafted role players on other teams right now. Saying that Jimmy has absolutely no help is honestly a huge disservice to the rest of the team. If they were really as bad as the media and other teams’ fanbases want to suggest Jimmy would be averaging 40+ pts every game just to keep them barely above water.

  23. Reydriel

I don’t understand why what number you got drafted (or if you got drafted at all) matters one bit, it’s like evaluating the quality and talent of someone today based on their highschool grades in Math ten years ago lmao

  24. koticgood

It’s incredible what the 4 role players (if you can even call Martin that at this point lmao) have done to hide the absence of Oladipo/Herro.

The minutes that Vincent, Strus, Robinson, and especially Martin have put in are just insane.

The latter 3 can be **really** streaky shooting the basketball, but the Heat are threat against anyone if they’re making shots.

  25. Opening-Oil-1234

Heat Culture, where pups become Dawgs

  26. thebranbran

Personally, I don’t think of it as an insult to the players but more of how well the Heat are at finding and building talent. Name another team in the league built similarly to the Heat?

  27. ShotClockCheeeese

Spo is about to bring Jimmy plus a bunch of tins cans to the finals

  28. Dare555

Agree. All this shows that there is plenty of talent that goes unnoticed . Draft often miss them , some get the chance like Heat guys some never do.

Some end up balling in Europe despite being good for NBA as well. Thats life ,getting a chance and grabbing it is not easy

  29. Mario0617

I mean he’s damn right. These guys aren’t superstars – but they’ve played in and “overperformed” in as many playoff games as anybody else in the league the last 4 years.

At what point does it just becoming “performing as we’ve come to expect”?

Are we gonna keep talking about how great Tom Brady was for a sixth round pick, and how he doing so well for a sixth round nfl pick or whatever he was? Nah man, that shit’s disrespectful. I’m not saying these guys are elite talent-wise but they have some talent and they hustle. Spo is 110% right take on this and I’m glad he called it out.

  30. cwesttheperson

Is Spo currently the best coach in the NBA?

  31. RatLord445

Seriously tho its pretty disrespectful to talk about the heat lime this, they are playing fantastic, all of them INCLUDING jimmy and not just jimmy carrying
