Mavs not that into Ayton and weighing trading 10th

The Mavericks’ trade interest in Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton, league sources maintain, has been overstated to this point. While Ayton does have some fans in the organization, there are likewise questions about the former No. 1 overall pick’s ability to live up to the $102-plus million left on Ayton’s contract over the next three seasons. I don’t get any sense at this juncture that Ayton is Dallas’ top trade target

The Mavericks, league sources say, want to have a thorough handle on their drafting options before they make a firm commitment to trading out of the first round now that they’ve (narrowly) retained their top-10-protected pick in Round 1 that would have been conveyed to New York had it fallen any lower than No. 10 in Tuesday’s lottery. The expectation in rival front offices, when it comes to the Mavericks’ selection, nonetheless continues to be that they will try to package No. 10 with, say, Tim Hardaway Jr. and/or Dāvis Bertāns and/or JaVale McGee in a trade to be consummated after Dallas makes the pick.

If we’ve learned anything, the move that gets made is the one not discussed. See: Kyrie Irving trade at the deadline.

Good. Ayton is basically Gorbert with worse Defense on 30M.

I kinda think the Suns know other teams aren’t into Ayton at this point. Hell, I think they’d struggle to find a trade partner for Chris Paul if they try to move him.

Ayton’s a good player but he is not the kind of center this team needs. They need someone who’ll prioritize defense and rebounding, not touches on offense. A high motor is also critically important, someone with dawg in him, who’ll hustle and never give up on plays.

If the Mavs could somehow make a play for one of the Pistons’ young, energetic bigs it would be great. They have a glut at that position between Duren, Stewart, Wiseman and Bagley.

Ayton neither solves interior defense or rebounding, so it is a good move imo

Wouldn’t the Suns have kept Monty if they really were gonna trade Ayton?

What a joke they have to use the 10 th pick to get rid of bad contracts they signed and acquired. Which will lower the values

This is good news. We can’t afford 3 Max contracts with the current roster+ new CBA rules.

u/StormTheTrooper Nico read you post and said Nah we’re not going for Ayton.

Bad contracts are way, way worse now.

I think players are going to see these big contracts way less often now.

Big is not worth that money unless you’re Jokic.

I mean. I would take Allen over Ayton, cheaper and I’d say better defender, albeit less an offensive threat

This better not be some Walker Kessler shit and the mavs end up drafting and trading a guy better and younger than who they traded for.😂.

Why go for Ayton when we have Powell?

I just hope moving forward the mavs learn from these mistakes, as well as the successes of the spurs and warriors dynasties. Don’t ignore the draft. Draft picks are worth way more to keep a steady flow of young talent to fill rotational roles than they are to trade for injury-prone, borderline stars.

10th overal, future 1st, Wood, and Hardaway Jr for sign+trade Jaylen Brown and Muscale/Kornet.
