[Hollinger] There does not appear to be any willpower for this type of step back in places like, say, Chicago or Portland or Washington. Toronto seems like the only team that might — might — entertain dealing elite wings for draft capital.

>One can argue there are teams that *should* be doing this, mind you, but sorry: There does not appear to be any willpower for this type of step back in places like, say, Chicago or Portland or Washington. Zach LaVine, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal aren’t walking through that door. Toronto seems like the only team that might — *might* — entertain dealing elite wings for draft capital.

> With Portland in “win it for Dame” mode and the Blazers desperate for playable wings (even presuming they re-sign Jerami Grant), speculation is already widespread that a package of the third pick and Anfernee Simons might be used to snag an elite small forward.

Feels like teams think they can fleece us because they know we’re in a tough spot with wanting to keep Dame happy. I just hope Cronin doesn’t get bullied into forcing a bad trade.

Trade the pick Joe. Make a run and trust in Dame for once.

See this is what I’ve been concerned about. And when it comes to trading Dame I can’t see any team who would need him (one piece away) with the assets to give us value. We’d be underselling him and that helps no one. That’s why I want to keep both right now. Dame may be upset but maybe he’ll come around like he did on trading 7 vs Shaedon Sharpe.

    He also says:

“Orlando holds pick Nos. 6 and 11 and would likely be tempted to trade up and take Henderson if the Hornets select Miller at No. 2. Could some combination of the sixth and 11th picks and another asset allow the Magic to move up to No. 3?

The other half of this trade is that it would allow the Blazers to hedge their bets by splitting their lottery pick in two. Imagine, for instance, a scenario where the Blazers do this trade with Orlando, then deal the sixth pick for immediate wing help but hang on to No. 11 and use it on Duke big man Dereck Lively II.”

Not sure about Lively, though he’s interesting. What’s more interesting is splitting up the 3rd pick into two. If we could say trade for OG with the 6th, possible other picks, and even keep Ant, I’d be happy. Then we’d have the 11th to either draft or package in another serious trade. All in all, I’d be happy with OG, I just don’t want us to get fleeced too bad for his expiring contract. It’d be nice to know that he’d be open to an extension or at the very least we’d have bird rights. The 6 + 11 picks could also be useful in other ways too if we weren’t crazy about drafting whoever falls to the 3 after workouts etc.
