Hopefully this means we’re going to be doubling Butler in crunch time. We have enough rim presence with rob and perimeter presence between our guards that we can afford to make Butler be a playmaker

It’s pick your poison. Doubling butler is gonna leave their scorching hot shooters open for 3. I guess we’ll try to make their role players beat us instead of letting butler go 1 on 1. We’ll see how it goes

I would prefer to have Tatum be the primary defender on Butler tonight.
The only person on this team who can guard Butler is Tatum. And occasionally Smart. But mainly Tatum due to his length, and defensive instincts. Everyone else is either too small, too slow, or lacks the IQ to stay down on his pump fakes. Brown is food on the perimeter. I see everyone speak on his “defense” but he is a very poor perimeter defender imo..gambles often and occasionally will guess right when anticipating where the offensive player is going. But more times than not he gets lost on picks, fouling, or just downright falling asleep defensively. Its frustrating
Joe is comedically bad
Tatum need to step up and guard him in the 4th! And don’t concede easy switches. He’s literally our best defender
Love the idea but besides bigs recently how many times have we’ve seen a double team on any superstar player for more than 50% of possessions?
I’m sure it can work like I’m sure cover defense can work in the NFL (if taught in college) or Phil Jackson coaching a team to play triangle. Just nobody is learning to do it and the playoffs aren’t the right time to teach it.
Jaylen needs to really step up, especially if he’s not giving you anything on offense. I want to avoid Tatum having to 1v1 Butler and have to carry the offense. Jaylen has the agility and strength to matchup on Jimmy but he does on screens and falls for the pump fakes too easily.
Also Grant legit defended Jimmy well, Jimmy is just that guy capable of hitting shots.

Keep Tatum on him and stop switching. Tatums length can bother him and he’d much rather pick on anyone else. I hate how easily we switch sometimes when they’re not even setting a real screen
