So this is a test piece i put together to see how video editing would work instead of making a bigass text post (and if it would kill my laptop or not). Anyhow its 128 clips (out of a possible 196 clips) of Poole’s worst live ball TO’s, this does not include travels, dribbling violations, or offensive fouls. Common themes I noticed while putting it together.

    1. Upper body and lower body not in sync, likely from rushing complex dribble moves and not working on maintaining the fundamentals, leads to those awful unforced TO’s where he randomly loses the dribble.

    2. Lazy automatic passing when defenders are right there, idk how Poole doesnt see them

    3. Deciding where to go with the pass before receiving the ball instead of reading the defense

    4. Going for way too many highlight passes instead of making simple ones

    5. Panicking when unable to get by the defender and picking up his dribble for no reason

    6. Abysmal transition defense, either doesnt hustle back will take high risk plays that take him out of the play when they fail

    Hope y’all enjoy it

I decided to watch the full video to try to understand more what was going in his head but I couldn’t take it more after the 6minutes mark.
This was just a tough season for him. When he wasn’t in a Poole party, his body was moving way too fast for his brain, and sometimes it looks like he just didn’t care, as if he was the one with 4 rings.

I hope he comes back with another mindset and that Draymond and him works it out over the summer if they are both staying with the team.

Holy shit this video is 20 minutes long? This is even beyond Westbrook levels of bad ball control and movement.

So many in the clutch, pretty much expected a TO if it was late game and JP had the ball.

Hopefully he works a ton on that handle this off-season. And defense. And shot selection. And not jawing with refs (and coaches).

Hard to watch. He needs to learn composure. Specially in crucial ball possessions. Instead of throwing up 3s. Composure and Ball control.Only thing he needs to work on and learn from Curry

Not all of these are live ball turnovers. The very first clip is a dead ball turnover. Just call it JP turnovers comp.

Delete this so the other teams don’t see it!

The problem with Poole’s turnovers this year wasn’t the number of them. Plenty of great players have similar turnover numbers. The problem was the type of turnovers he makes.

In the NBA there are generally 3 types of turnovers.

    1) Exceptional defensive plays – You can’t really blame the offensive player for these. A lot of GP2 steals are in this category, where the offensive player is doing what they do every night and he just takes the ball away from them anyway with pure skill.

    2) Thread the needle turnovers – These are plays where, if it goes correctly, it results in a guaranteed score. You don’t mind these turnovers much as long as a good enough percentage of them are going through successfully. If you make 3 dangerous passes with 2 of them ending in dunks and 1 in a turnover, that’s actually a positive with decent transition defense. This is where a lot of Draymond’s turnovers are.

    3) Pointless/Sloppy turnovers – These are the plays where you just give the ball away for no reason at all.

The vast majority of Poole’s turnovers this year were in category 3, and that’s just not something a player on a contending team should be allowed to do.

I’m going to have to watch this tomorrow. can’t believe some of these turnovers.

/u/TheRed_Knight bout to release a LOTR Extended Trilogy on Poole’s screw-ups on defense this season.
