[Wind] Michael Malone on Nikola Jokic: “That first Summer League in Vegas, 300 pounds, out of shape, hey, he’s a nice player. No one, and if anybody tells you different they’re full of shit, no one could have seen that he’d be a two-time MVP passing Wilt Chamberlain every other night.”

  1. This guys talking out his ass now. There was that schizo redditor who called it almost a decade ago

This is what Luka could be if he’d put down the cookie dough and toughen up.

Where is Okafor? That was a player that was hype to be a very good center. And he’s gone.

We’ve came long way since Mike benched Jokic for Nurkic once upon a time.

Me and my brother in law always argue about 90s ball vs today (both late 30s). He doesn’t like this spread out ball where PF/C shoot 3s.

Idk what year it was but it was after Denver traded Nurkic n before the bubble, we were having one of our arguments. I told him “Jokic in Denver would get Karl Malone tf outta here.”
He’s laughed at me, told me I was tripping.

He didn’t believe in him actually. He kept playing Nurkic over him until Nurk got injured. He was forced to play Jokic. The year after, Millsap got signed, he played through Millsap instead of Jokic.

This guy is a fake player’s coach, riding off the success of TC and Booth’s draft prospects.

    > no one could have seen he’d be a two-time MVP passing Wilt Chamberlain every other night

no one saw, not even himself. he didn’t believe in him.

    >and if anyone tells you different they’re full of shit

    lmao i love this guy

it really is amazing what hard work can do. he always had the skills to be a starter/rotation player but something clicked a few years ago. some of it is just effort now. whether he gets the rebound or not, he absolutely sprints down court. it was embarrassing how often he beat laker guards downcourt.

Not necessarily true I remember clearly that this subreddit was pretty high on the guy even during his first season

The sweep cured Malone’s voice lmao

  11. Damn his comment about wilt, is that low key outting jokic smashing 5 girls a night? 😂

  12. TheChrisLambert

Wow, I really misremember then. I would have sworn that Jokic was one of those highly prized international players that had huge hype and the potential to be a franchise-maker.

Just looked it up and he was drafted in round 2? Crazy.

  13. seijeezy

Maybe not during summer league but I remember years before his first MVP I used to follow some basketball analytics guys on Twitter who were glazing him like crazy

Malone doesn’t know anything. EG song has to be sang. He said that Jokic would be one of the best centers ever when Jokic was a rookie. He even say that he would pass Dirk, which led to many people deem he insane. I want to know how EG’s brain works.

    Edit: typo.

  15. desirox

Jokic story doesn’t really get talked about enough. Amazing success story

  16. Accomplished_Dance49

Except EG, that guy knew somehow.

  17. Jokic actually has by far the best stamina on center position lol. He run transitions faster than AD and because he can’t protect the rim after PNR he simply stays so close to the guards and block their vision and passing lane by his big body.
Him and Anatoly are so deceiving lol.

  18. Murder-Machine101

Lol I swear he got superpowers wen he caught COVID

I remember Jokic’s biggest criticism was he couldn’t close out gms…he got COVID, lost some weight and came back able to close out gms

  19. Background_Panda3547

It took Malone until the post-ASB portion of the 2017 season to see Jokic was clearly their best player. Jokic was killing the entire 17 season. They make the playoffs if he just never plays Nelson and gives Jokic full reign he got later.

Malone and the generally scoring centered players Denver surrounds him with has always bothered me. But there is a chemistry built there now and I like it. I trust Malone.

Whatever Jokic is doing right now, remember that Javale McGee was the first Denver Nugget to do it.

Leading the fastbreak? Center doing highlight pass? 7-foot point guard? he may not be as efficient as Jokic but he had the idea.

Imagine if the nuggets had chose to keep Nurkic over Jokic, would the blazers be like 3 time Champs by now??
