JJ Reddick: “After Game 1 of the Nuggets-Lakers series…I’d say over half the conversation is about the Lakers and what they did. Oh, by the way Nikola Jokic had his third straight triple-double that game…how much did we talk about that? We don’t do a good job selling what the NBA is…”

Redick continued:

> [“We don’t do a good job of selling what the NBA is which is 30 teams, 450 players, multiple superstars. The fact that people are now being like, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize Nikola Jokic was good.’ Let’s put him on TV more! Let’s talk about him!”](https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1661029092454531075?t=kbHzQ8boyChEeJwcDTGfSQ&s=19)

Jackson’s whiny ass doesn’t help when he’s just taking jabs against the Nuggets and Joker every game and fondling the Lakers so much

  2. Media will always milk established IP before investing time and money in developing new IP. They’re lazy and short-sighted in their greed just like most of the corporate world.

  3. mohiben

I mean yeah, but when Malone calls it out he’s somehow out of line

  4. TalenHortonTuckMeIn

Y’all shit on the media but the majority of r/nba posts last night were about the lakers losing…

  5. _meestir_

Seriously. It was so apparent to anybody outside of LaLa Land that the narrative was dominated by Lakers doing this, not doing that, Lebron this, AD that, etc etc.

It just gets fucking old and feels so obviously forced.

  6. Nice_Dude

If people want their team talked about more, why don’t they just like the Lakers? Are they stupid?

  7. pskill43

ESPN trying it’s hardest to make nba into WWE

  8. FatherHaz

I wonder what ESPN finna talk about once Bron and Steph retire

  9. N3110H_5555

Everyone at ESPN is just praying Reddick gets a head coaching job. He’s too real for them

  10. LeGJOaT69966996

This is with all sports and networks. They show what sels and what people will tune in to see. The cater to the avg fan .

  11. alexredekop

But like… he was also part of that conversation. Didn’t he do a video right after Game 1 about how the 4th quarter defensive changes for the Lakers were the most important part of the game?

  12. SubcooledBoiling

On Undisputed they started with last night’s game but focused almost entirely on Lebron’s performance, then moved on to the possibility of Lebron retiring, and then Kyrie showing up to the game. The disrespect to the Denver is just crazy lol.

  13. silentorange813

Jokic is getting the Tim Duncan treatment. Espn rarely covered him, especially in the off-season.

  14. kaceytronwhiteknight

The media sucks the Lakers and Lebrons nuts so much. They just got SWEPT. The media trashed the Suns and KD and Booker for losing in 6 to the Nuggets. Lakers just got swept and all they’re talking about is Lebron’s future.

Timberwolves took a game btw. The Lakers are literally the easiest team the Nuggets faced these playoffs. Fake ass “western conference finalists” the nuggets-suns was the real western conference finals

  15. Well said Reddick . Promote smaller markets better and fun teams instead and viewers will love it

  16. Sartheking

He’s not wrong, on Undisputed they spent the entire show talking about the Lakers and almost nothing about the Nuggets.

Whereas in the NFL the Packers do get talked about a lot despite being in Wisconsin. The Chiefs are in Missouri and get talked about.

  17. Philosopher_King

How much of the Finals conversation will be LeBron’s maybe retirement.

  18. brownjitsu

I dont have an issue with the laker talk today. Lebron is out, possibly hinting at retirement (or letting Pelinka know he still has the nuclear option), them being out of the playoffs. Its the clear bias from, what should be, neutral parties. The jvg and jackson were not neutral at all during the playoffs. Or the constant praise and analyses for the lakers in losses.

  19. Man0nTheMoon915

Yeah we dont. That’s how Embiid won the MVP. “But it’s a regular season award” yeah Jokic was playing like this in the regular season too, but still lost the MVP bc narratives

  20. quinninin

when the heat beat the Bucks, Zach Lowe spend 30 mins talking about how the bucks collapsed and what the offseason moves are, and like 2 minutes on what the Heat did. The NBA media does not deserve its fans….

  21. JZ_the_ICON

After the Nuggets won last night they followed LeBron to the locker room. We didn’t see the Nuggets celebration until after the LeBron walk. The Nuggets first ever trip to the Finals and we didn’t even get to see their entire celebration on the floor.

  22. sunchipsgardensals

stop doing espn NBA!!! tnt all the way

  23. Pretend_Atmosphere41

Yesterday I was watching a video on YouTube about Jimmy Butler’s trajectory on NBA. The way ESPN talked about him is absurd! At the same time they were still saying amazing things about Ben Simmons… We all know how well that went…

The NBA coverage is always biased not just towards teams but towards players as well.

I think places like Reddit or YouTube and others social media platforms exposed this biased coverage and at the same time created a space for discussion about other teams and players. The main media is paying attention to this, this statement from JJ Reddick shows that.

  24. samurairocketshark

Fuck Stephen A, Fuck Skip Bayless, and fuck all you dipshits who watch the nba for hate and drama. It’s insane that the next generational best player in the league has emerged and we still need to talk about the Lakers every 2 seconds

  25. JBreezy11

    the Nuggets DESTROYED the Lakers.

It isn’t about what the Lakers did or didn’t do. It’s about the Nuggets.

Just like how the HEAT are currently DESTROYING the Celtics.

I hope the Finals are going to be competitive at least.

  26. PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Mass televised NBA media is like 90% either the Lakers, Warriors, Knicks or Heat.

It gets so annoying so quickly

  27. sheeeeeez

A lot of you youngins didn’t get to experience NBA on NBC and how different it felt.

  28. tonychan04

They’re still taking about Lakers and Lebron. There isn’t one segment dedicated on the Nuggets on ESPN this morning.

  29. jasonapplebaum2502

JJ Redick is annoying he’s like that one person in class who reminds the teacher about homework

  30. dabobbo

ESPN Stats probably still has the Lakers with a 40% chance to win the series.

  31. dBlock845

Maybe say that shit before the series is over? This wreaks of Mark Jackson saying “I am just NOW seeing how great Jokic is” in the fourth quarter of game 4.
