[Stein] Giannis “intrigued” by Adrian Griffin as head coaching candidate

> The Bucks appear to be the closest of the five teams with current coaching openings to filling the position. [Nurse, Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson and Adrian Griffin, an assistant on Nurse’s staff in Toronto, are the three reported finalists to replace the ousted Mike Budenholzer](https://marcstein.substack.com/). As I reported here Monday, dialogue with Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be a feature of this stage … with Giannis said to be intrigued by the Griffin option.

Definitely some legs to this story it seems. How and why it got out there is an interesting question.

From the outside looking in it appears the players are really trying to fill the void left by Darvin Ham leaving and that is why they are advocating or at least taking interest in a coach like Adrian Griffin who was a former player and currently has a son playing in the NBA. I am guessing he probably has an easier time relating to players because of those two things.

From just reading around the sub and different reports it seems as if the ownership has a guy in mind (possibly Nurse?) and the FO has their own guy in mind (possibly Atkinson?) and the players have their own guy in mind which is Griffin.

I hope we go with Atkinson instead of the “keep Giannis happy and hire the guy who he wants” approach. He is not the GM for a reason. Can’t forget he wanted to keep Jason Kidd.

What if we hire Nurse with Griffin as his top assistant? Everyone wins.

    Whatever makes Giannis happy.

Reminder that Giannis also wanted to keep Kidd.
