Did this moment cause a wrist injury that is being concealed? Since this play in game 1 JB has went from our 2nd best shooter this postseason to the worst this series.

His drastic change in shooting is being written off as him not trying or coming back to the mean by majority of the fanbase. But I find it pretty hard to believe that a player drops almost 40% in 3pt shooting without there being an injury. And I feel this specific moment is being completely ignored and forgotten about when talking about this decline.
Also this isn’t me trying to make an excuse for his play, just an observation on what I believe has contributed to his 3pt shooting decline specifically.

It’s weird the mental gymnastics people go through. Miami is making Jaylen second guess every decision he makes, they are contesting him well, and he’s compounding the issue by taking bad shots to try to get himself going. It could very well be a mental block combined with a cold streak.

I actually completely forgot about this play until it was mentioned in the game yesterday – definitely would explain the sharp drop off in his shooting

Doesn’t look like he lands on it awkwardly. Usually wrist injuries happen from catching yourself on an open hand.

I don’t buy it that there is an injury which is affecting him.
Let’s assume that his wrist/elbow is actually hurting. If the injury is so bad that he can’t even make FTs reliably, then why is he shooting early in the clock 3s? Why is he shooting midrange jumpers instead of actively trying to cut his own shots and playmake for others?
CP3 had an upper shoulder injury in playoff series which they did not want to disclose. He wasn’t able to shoot, physically get the ball to the rim on a jumper. Went through the entire series, not shooting and solely play making. The opposing team had no idea about his injury.
Not saying JB can play make anything like CP3, but if he is injured, I have to hope that himself and coaches are smart enough to realize that he should attract defensive attention but then pass it to ones who can actually make the shot, instead of letting the injury hurt the team.
He’s just going through garden variety shooting slump at the worst possible time, and is mentally shook.

He drops his head and shoulder, trying to get low and evade contact. I’d like to see the full clip, but he should worry less about avoiding contact and try to draw the block. He slips on drives, because he trying to get outside the defender explosively. (At some point in his career, he got called for a lot of charges; this is compensation.)
Alternatively: move less suddenly, wait for the defender to move, then move laterally. If the contact happens at that point it’s a slide/block. Tatum is good at more patient lateral movement. (And dribbling off the foot.)

Isn’t that his off-hand? I don’t see how that would affect his shot all that much if it’s his guide hand.

imho this looked more like a “funny bone” hit and not impacting shooting…. but i think only brown can say what’s contributing to a drop in efficiency or the root cause if there even is one.

The issue that I have is it’s not an excuse. If he is playing through an injury that makes him the worst player on the court by far then he needs to get off the court or not shoot as many times as he is because he would know he is injured.

Unless a team has openly said that a player is injured, I don’t like blaming injuries, but this could be legit. That looked pretty rough and JB has underwent pretty drastic shooting drop-off.
EDIT: Obviously we should give massive credit to Miami’s defense, too. Could be some combination.

hperextended elbow. You can see it get pinched between Bam’s knees right before he pulls it to his chest in pain.

So then the question becomes why are we force feeding an injured player and expecting results?

Something def wrong with JB bro bro not himself and I feel bad for getting so mad at him. Guy just ain’t on his game and it’s unlike him over 4 games to be like this. Idc if people buy in to the injury or whatever the guy is in pain clearly in this clip. As soon as the season ends you’ll hear what happened.
doubtitslegit25
he’s clearly injured. brown’s play in this series is not him, and never has been(when healthy). he would not be front rimming free throws so early in the game.

This fucking sub sometimes man…Jaylen hurt his left elbow so that’s the reason he can’t make shots now…
Jaylen shoots right handed.
He’s in a slump. Just like Tatum went through last series but it happens. The good news is he can still deliver in time. It’s the conference finals. They’re all banged up
