“full leadership”… can’t wait to see what that means
Good hire! I wonder if he’ll also be GM like Tommy was president & GM, or if he’ll hire someone else like Langdon to handle all that stuff.
nice, i’m impressed with what i’ve read about him so far. from a few days ago:
Even before PG13 and Kawhi and all the crazy luxury tax dollars, they had some really good over-performing rosters. Also really good draft picks like SGA and Mann.
the more I read about him the more I’m on board.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Winger
1. worked for 7 years under Presti in OKC and made some good draft picks there (Mitch McGary, Reggie Jackson, Steven Adams, Andre Roberson, and Cameron Payne).
2. Shortly after he was hired in LAC, they traded Blake Griffin’s enormous contract to Detroit in 2018.
3. he turned down an offer from MIN in 2019, so he does have standards and Ted is gonna have to put in work/money to get him.
welcome
Excellent hire.
Lets go!!! Also, don’t doubt Troy Haliburton any more /u/Turbo2x
Awesome news! Now please hit a home run this upcoming draft
Bob Meyers passed I guess…
Dang he controls the Mystics & GoGo too. He’s head of all basketball in DC
Did tommy also control the G- league and mystics?
He cannot be worse than Tommy, surely?
Winger’s Wizards! Hopefully we can look back at this as the turning point to the start of some great basketball for the Wizards
ESPN story: [Sources: Michael Winger leaving Clippers to run Wizards](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/37724123/sources-michael-winger-leaving-clippers-run-wizards) (no real new info in there just yet but this part is hopefully foreshadowing of bringing Langdon on as the gm:
>New Orleans GM Trajan Langdon was a prominent part in the Wizards’ search, too, sources said. Winger and Langdon were the two executives known to have had substantial in-person meetings with Leonsis and organizational leadership, sources said.
He drafted SGA so I’m happy with this
welcome sir
very eager to see what he has to offer. clippers have been perennial playoff team
Does this mean Ted can focus on the caps and he’s basically got power of attorney over the wiz lol
does the 2k team fall under monumental basketball?
They saw that post in here saying its been 5 weeks
Anyone who is mad about this is a dumbass
Let’s see what the man’s vision is. For now, congrats on the job! Hope you bring us happier times than the last 2 guys did
Glad the wait is over. Now……go.
So I see a bunch of people saying they like this but not saying why. Can people explain why this is a good move? Seems like his draft history in OKC was average, and trading an asset like SGA for an older player is concerning. Plus he traded away 5 1st round picks in that trade. Not only that, seems like a negative in that Kawhi is able to do whatever and barely play. Please convince me why it’s good. What am I missing?
Now he is one of us Mortgaging 3 decades of draft picks and a future all nba player for two dudes who can’t play a combined 45 games a year was a good deal and this man is a genius
He drafted Shai with 11th pick. That’s all I know
OK I love this hire. I was being hard on Ted in an earlier sub, but this is an outstanding choice and I’m genuinely excited he finally got it done. Kudos to him
I like this move but only because the guy looks like Chris Elliot
Another yes man.
Zach Lowe said something to the effect of “these are the guys I would want running my team” when they mentioned winger, Langdon, and booth as candidates.
OH SHIT – [AVA WALLACE](https://twitter.com/avarwallace/status/1661531514260140033)
>This is a powerful role Winger is stepping into. He’ll be deciding the broad direction of the team, and **everything including a full roster overhaul is on the table.**
We really can’t escape Carson Wentz man. All jokes aside I’m just hoping for the best. How a GM will do is impossible to predict. Let’s hope he makes good moves immediately.
Ava Wallace just dropped a bomb….Winger will hire a GM! WE’RE NOT DONE YET
