Is Anthony Black a fit for the Thunder?

What would it take to make a trade into the top 5 of the 2023 draft?

  1. If he's okay with being a sixth man forever sure. Would be a great pick if Thunder manage to trade up for him. He obviously won't be available at 12.

  2. Just because Presti has drafted a certain way in the past few drafts doesn't mean he will continue to draft that way. It's my opinion that after character and culture fit, the most important priority in Presti's eyes is 3 point shooting.

Imagine a 7 game playoff series against a stout team like Denver with multiple long defenders. What is the game plan vs SGA? Pack the paint. Giddey? Pack the paint? Dort? Pack the paint? JDub? Pack the paint. If we draft Anthony Black? Pack the paint. Only Chet projects as a 3 point shooting threat that spreads the defense out a bit. It's possible that each individual improves outside shooting…

but i think Presti wouldn't want to bet the future on 4+ bad to mediocre 3 point shooters all improving enough to spread out a postseason defense. I think he wants a born shooter this time around. If Black was the selection, we'd end up having to sit him in for lots of minutes in a postseason series. If not him, then somebody else we don't like off the floor.

I love Anthony black by the way…. I think he can be a top 3 player in this draft. If we didn't have Giddey…. he'd be exactly who we wanted. But we do have Giddey… and both Giddey and Black need a Klay Thompson type on the floor with them at the end of a playoff game. Not a replica of themselves.
