I personally think one of the Lakers' biggest decisions going forward will be the management of LeBron's minutes if he plays next season (maybe convince him to take a pay cut too). 38 going on 39 with a list of ankle and foot injuries in the past 2 seasons, he probably could still be productive and play 35 mins per game when he finishes recovering in the offseason, but he will have to play with a lot less physical effort for a lot of plays to avoid burning out midseason or sustaining a more serious injury.
We've all seen how detrimental to the team it is when he takes plays off on defense, run down the shot clock on plays, or shoot unnecessary 3s because he's fatigued from playing 40+ minutes a game. If Rui, Vanderbilt, and another wing/small ball 4 can step up, and another big man can help manage AD's minutes, LeBron would ideally be playing 25-30 minutes a game and be more impactful to winning than the 40 mpg version of him we've seen for two seasons.
Many fans expect AD to be the new #1 option, but the current version of him is not a consistent go-to guy: NOLA AD and 2020 AD had a much more consistent and reliable shooting touch, he was shooting much better from midrange and from 3 at the time, and in the post his hooks and floaters were also more reliable. around 2021-22 he bulked up, and ever since his jumper and finesse moves got a lot less threatening to defenders, and since his vision and passing skills are only average, teams could crowd the paint and double him with impunity, and that's when he either prays his jumpers go in or he just defers to Bron, he won't try to force his way through like Giannis and it's completely understandable given his injury history and his PTSD from said injuries. This current version of AD is just a physically bigger, stronger version of Kentucky AD, the best defensive anchor and lob threat in the league, and on some nights he can get in a rhythm and be the scorer, but his offense won't be there every night.
This is where the need for more reliable shooting and another shot creator from the guards and wings come into play. With good spacing and with the gravity of another scorer, defenses have to close out, and when they close out AD will have all the space to go 1v1 against mismatches and catch all the lobs he wants.
