Full Wembanyama Scouting Report

I’ve watched the latter half of Wembanyama’s French league games and put this together. It may seem overly critical, but he truly is a once-in-a-generation talent. I would just warn against expecting too much too early. He is still very raw and makes sloppy decisions. A year with pop will correct most of these

I don’t think this comes off as overly critical. I think that the low 3 point shooting percentage is going to be a bigger issue than you seem to. It’s not enough for me to not be high on him, but that percentage would be one of the 5 worst in NBA history over significant volume. With his level of talent, you’d like to see him be able to score more efficiently, but Anthony Davis has shown the impact that a high level big defender can have while playing a rudimentary offensive game.

I think this is a great write up. Fully agreed on the ball security—that’s gonna need some serious work. Gets stripped a lot. I think his impact will be felt more immediately on the defensive end, but the good thing is that his offense is still pretty polished for his age and there’s a lot of potential for growth as long as he’s the hard worker he’s been advertised as.

Only thing I have issue with is the “he’s still very raw and makes sloppy decisions” I think we get caught up in what he can be that we don’t put in to perspective how polished and not sloppy he is at 19. We think he’s sloppy and raw because we know what he can become but he’s the focal point on a team with not really that much talent and is seeing entire defensive gameplans and built around stopping him yet even on bad nights he give you something like 20+ 13+ 😅 overall I think you nailed the assessment and I didn’t find anything I’d disagree with at all.
Tldr : you know ball 🔥

I only watched one French playoff game, but he did multiple nice plays with his left hand. Looks like he’s already improving there.

    > He is still very raw

Yea this is where i disagree with some of the hype. I think Wemby is gonna be great, but he’s not as good of a prospect as Lebron or Luka (no idea how the league didnt’ take him #1). Wemby is a more typical 19 year old. I don’t see him coming in and taking this roster to a playoff spot like Luka/Lebron did in their 2nd years.

I see him probably needing a year or two to settle in and grow into his game. Not saying he’s going to look liek Jabari smith or anything but probably becomes an all star in year 3 which is still amazing
