Ricardo Brito Reis checks in from Portugal talking Neemias Queta and Sasha Vezenkov

This special edition of The Kings Beat is something new we are trying throughout the summer months. We sit down with Ricardo Brito Reis, who covers the NBA from Portugal. If all goes well, we will continue summer interviews like this one from around the NBA as we trudge through the offseason.

Topics include the difficulties of calling NBA games in the middle of the night halfway around the world, the development of Neemias Queta and a scouting report on Kings EuroLeague star prospect Sasha Vezenkov.

Thanks for joining us on this adventure! Big shoutout to Paul Jinkerson (@paulitition) for creating a new intro and outro for the podcast and to Brenden for creating our new overlay for the podcast.

  1. As a Portuguese in Sacramento, i want Neemy to get a chance on the roster as a backup C. I might be the only person with a Kings Queta shirt haha

  2. I think he has made some huge leaps in his play. He’s gotta keep getting better and confident. Go Neemi!

  3. Vezenkov as a small ball 5 next to a better interior defender could be interesting in spurts. Teams will have to respect his shot and the perimeter players spacing and cutting is an intriguing idea.

  4. My biggest hope next season is that Neemy is good enough to back Sabonis. It’d be an even bigger game changer for the Kings than Sasha joining imo.

  5. The question is….how would he fit into Mike Brown's system? At the moment, Sabonis is the catalyst to spark the offense. He is the center of their attack. Can Neemi play a similar role on the offensive end? Is he able to be a hub for the offense? Will the Kings need to acclimate to his style and game? If he can improve his BB IQ and know where players will be on the offensive end, plus be a quality passer who can attack the rim as well…..he'll be a force. Neemi's defense is desperately needed on this team, but how will he match up against Embid, Jokic, and even brutes like Steven Adams. I think he needs an opportunity to learn and make mistakes to improve because something tells me he's a quick learner and we all know he is a hard worker. I'm rooting for Neemi!

  6. Neemi has been a good passer in Utah State. I think that would translate with bigger minutes with the Kings. I'm more worried about his rebounding though. He's gotta seal people and not rely on his length when attempting to grab rebounds.
