interesting move staking Giannis career on an unproven coach, not sure what to make of this

  2. IonHazzikostasIsGod

“The Bucks are beginning work on financial terms of a contract with Griffin and a deal is expected to be reached soon that’ll make Griffin the franchise’s next head coach, sources said.”

This is not what I expected… let’s hope this works out

Bucks banking their jobs on this hiring. If you hired Nurse and it didn’t work out, you could probably be excused by hiring the best available HC. Now, the entire future of the franchise banks on this hiring. For the sake of my sanity, I hope it works

It is what it is, let’s hope he turns out to be the right man for the job and this wasn’t solely done to appease Giannis’ wishes, as rumored.

Must’ve crushed the culture-fit part of the interview. Players want him, I bet.

  7. I don’t mind this. I wanted kenny but from all accounts it seemed like nurse was a douche and has one championship and middling regular seasons. He’s not some coaching god.

Bobby tweeted that not having ham really hurt them this year and I think having a motivator former player coach (bud was not a good motivator) is key to their success. He’s coached for 15 years in the league and was a part of the raptors championship. Nothing inherently wrong with first year head coaches. I mean shit nurse was one when he won

Go read the Raptors Reddit. Nothing but how much he deserves it and how happy they are for him.

  9. swaggydagoat

Nick Nurse but less abrasive I’m guessing.

    I’m ok with that.

I’m guessing Nurse is headed to phoenix.

The start of a Hall of Fame coaching career

  11. Faffout97

Not a bad coach by any means, but certainly the worst out of the three candidates they settled on. Still someone who was mentored by Nick Nurse and was around the league a good while. Hope he proves us wrong.

  12. messipendencia

Hopefully at least a B+ version of Nurse without any of the douchebaggery. Plus makes Giannis happy as a cherry on top – fine by me.

  13. A highly experienced assistant coach is a must now

  14. lopodo777

Interesting , this hiring would be nice if it was on a rebuilding squad. But in this instance I dont really know. Hope it goes great

  15. SkinnyErgosGetFat

Kenny/Nurse were who i was hoping we got,

an assistant or a raptors coach, we got both i guess lol

  16. grudgepacker

I wanted Nurse but I’m 100% okay with this – AG’s highly respected and even tho this is his first head coaching gig, lots of first time coaches have success. There’s no reason to think he can’t be successful here and while people will get upset for me saying this, it’s also good optics for the team to hire a black coach as well.

  17. ShadowKnight333

raptors fan here. he definitely deserves it over nick. y’all got a good one on ur hands.

  18. robgards

I love it honestly. I wanted him or Quinn.

  19. Cue dramatic overreaction from this sub about hiring a first year coach, while this same sub has also spent past the few weeks lamenting Darvin Ham getting away.

  20. CollectMantis44

“First time head coach” yeah so was Tyron lue with the 2016 Cavs and they came back down 3-1 against the warriors. Ime udoku (idk spelling) for Boston last year, led them to the finals I know they didn’t win it but still.

I’ll trust the front office and Giannis’ preference over all of these random redditors lol

  21. MacDemarcoMurray

i’m terrified because i have no clue whether or not he is good. could be a home run or doom the franchise, i really hope we know what we’re doing

  22. sentientcreatinejar

Just glad it’s not Nurse. 👍🏻

  23. dampTendies

Future back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back NBA champion.

Reading the Raptors sub, sounds like he has similar personality traits to Darvin Ham, players coach, and someone that can motivate a team. This team is already very good, adding someone that can get more out of the players and someone the player want to win for.

To anyone that doesn’t like the move, you do not know this guy and neither do I, but personality wise he seems to fit very well with this team.
