Zach Edey is a 7’4, 285lbs Toronto-born center coming out of Purdue, and he isn’t even projected to be drafted in this year’s draft.
He is a dominant post up player with a big body, averaging 22 points a game this year on 60% fg shooting. He is also a good offensive rebounder, generating almost 6 offensive rebounds a game.
The problem with Zach’s game is that he isn’t a very good defender despite his large frame and size. I think if we were to draft him, having him at the 5 with Chet at the 4 would compliment both his and Chet’s games and could potentially generate decent synergy amongst both players. Chet at the 4 enables him to be the shot-blocking defensive roaming anchor (similar to AD’s role), while Zach at the 5 becomes the big body enforcer that slows down bigger bigs that Chet’s frame can’t handle.
Zach has good IQ for a big man, noticing double teams coming and can quickly make the outlet pass to the open man. He is relatively coordinated and also has good hands and touch around the basket in general. He is a fine free throw shooter at 74% (7fta).
Here is a short Pro Day workout from DraftExpress of him:
Yes it is a workout in an empty-ish gym, but his shooting form looks promising and having an acceptable free throw percentage gives me optimism that he may eventually start knocking down threes at a very low rate (with the coaching of Chip Engelland).

Shhhhhhh…….
I want us to give him a shot on a 2 way deal. It would be fun to watch him in the G-league at the very least.
Kai soto changed his name?
Fuck no.
Eh why not
His ceiling is a poor man’s Boban, which isn’t bad for the 50th pick
Hell no. Dude has no chance of being an NBA player
Steven Adams Draft Combine LANE AGILITY TIME
(SECONDS) was 11.85 while Zach’s was 11.37.
Yes. We have nothing to lose, and long boiz to gain.
50th pick isn’t worth using on anything but a flyer, so why not? There are no safe picks at that point in the draft, everyone is a longshot to make it to the league. Big body at least has upside.
I’m feeling it if he has a solid attitude. I think it would be really helpful to have a guy like him for Chet to train with too. Straight up Splash Mountain 2.0 potential.
He’s not gonna go 50. He will go between 8-16.
That’s a really good workout.
Either way we need a backup center.
Absolutely not. I live in Indiana so I’m pretty familiar with his game, he’s not gonna make it in the NBA. He has incredible touch around the rim, but he’s really just not a very skilled big man. He will do great overseas somewhere, but he’s a wasted roster spot here.
All in for adding another Canadian to our roster.
I’m all for it especially at that point in the draft. We had a chance to draft bol bol and he seems like he’s turning a corner on his game this year
