2014 is hard. Westbrook and KD were clearly the two best players that series. What’s crazy is you could make a serious argument for all of Tony Tim Manu Kawhi and Boris. That strength up and down the rotation was why we overcame that top end talent disparity. Given how close the arguments are they probably would have given it to Tim after his late game shots.
For Spurs history,
99 David 03 Tim 05 Tim 07 Tim
99 and 03 no explanation needed.
05 I know Manu made a bunch of huge plays late in the 4Q and the offense ran through him at the end of games, but come on. It was Tim. Tim was the system. I know people want to give Manu something to credit him for how well he played in all the 05 series but he wasn’t better than Tim in any of them. They were both just that good.
07 Jazz was one of the series where the Big 3 all played pretty close to as well as each other. Tim had the terrible game 3 on the road but played fine in game 4 and dominated the other 3 games. I don’t think it’s crazy to make an argument for Tony or Manu but I do think both are eventually weak arguments. Game 5 was fun because we blew out the Jazz so much in the 1Q that Manu barely even needed to play. That 1Q also had one of my all time favorite spurs sequences when in the span of two minutes Horry stole an inbounds pass on Deron, forced Deron to travel on another inbounds pass, and then blocked Deron and got the rebound too.

Tony for 2013, Timmy for 2014
2013 was easily Tony.
