He fit better then Russ and was unplayable in the most crucial moments. Stating this isn’t bashing him. He could have a better season after a camp but if there’s a better option why not explore it.
Lovingnature412
Not bashing just being realistic about paying a guy that looked really bad against a team you’d probably face in the next years playoffs.
But, at the right price sure.
dineroknights
How many of those 17 games did he even play. Mfer was hurt half of em.
Temet21
I’m gonna die on this hill..
Lebron and Him shooting 21% from 3 on 9/41 shots had a lot more to do with us losing in the finals than him getting hunted. Plenty of good teams have players who get hunted… We lost 3 games by 2 possessions or less.
If they shot even just below average from 3 we take games 1, 2 & 4. Simple.
Kontos_Stelio
Not really. A starter being rendered useless in the conference finals is pretty bad
CockroachForeign6419
I mean if he played to his averages we’d prolly be playing in the finals right now, it is what it is tho. I still think we should keep him.
Mustard_Jam
Look, I get being positive about your guys but at some point it’s not being realistic and just coping.
The problem is some guys are just not built for the playoffs. Russell is one of them. In fact, he’s one of the worst playoff performers…in NBA history. Just go look at his shooting splits and then factor in he’s also one of the worst defenders on the court.
I’m thankful for his help during the regular season but going forward it’s problematic. Doesn’t matter what you do during the regular season if you’re just going to throw it during the post season because you’re the runaway worst player on the court.
isit65outsideor
He’s been tossed around the league for a reason. Is he an NBA player? Yes. Is he worth more than $15 million a year? No. He’s the PG version of Lou Williams.
Munk45
Bron and AD need another strong player to win rings.
DLo can be that #3
LAKESHOW03
Seriously Westbrook would’ve had a bigger impact in the WCF than he did. And I hated Westbrook on the team.
Danny_III
He’s a regular season player who got shook by Bruce Brown of all players. His lack of defense and offensive bag makes him a high ceiling low floor player which is not ideal for his projected salary cap hit on a team with championship aspirations
El_Chile_Amarillo
He’s not bad but we need him for the right price
YoungBasedHooper
If you think FVV would be better you’re on the same crack that almost killed Lamar Odom
LudwigNasche
He was bad in playoffs … as always.
He did a good job in regular season though.
Telling the truth isn’t bashing, he isn’t a playoff performer.

Not starting material, should be used off the bench if playing for a title contender. Not my opinion, the stats.
EmploymentChoice5305
The worst part about DLO is his defense. Role players like KCP and Bruce Brown COOKED him. God he’s awful defensively and terrible offensively in the Playoffs. What’s his use then? Especially when getting paid 30 million.
CabbageStockExchange
He’s better than the other Russ we had this season that’s for sure
KyrieWetUpCurry_
He can’t stay on the floor if his shot isn’t falling. He is who he is and is why he’s on his 5th team in 8 years.
_Zap_Rowsdower_
Disagree with the OP and Dlo. Dlo was out a bunch of games to the point we started to question if he was just trying to protect himself so he could get the bag in the offseason. So not really he didn’t help that much with our success in the post trade deadline.
HandsomeJack19
This is the Lakers. Regular season wins aren’t what they are about. It’s about the playoffs with them, about championships. And D’lo came up short when it mattered the most. Denver openly admitted after game 1 that they targeted him. Hearing that kind of open disrespect, the best players, the players you want to build a team with, take it personally, they step up. They still targeted him in game 2, and he once again couldn’t handle it. He can still be a valuable addition to a team, but at a significantly lower price tag than he will be willing to accept.
Old-Beginning5257
Between him & say Reaves if it comes to which we can keep its a no brainer for me. Unless he accepts a reasonable contract.Reaves was clearly the better player, shouldnt get more than AR.
ExcellentJuice4729
DLo has some loyal fans for a guy who’s done nothing in this league besides 1 all star appearance
Physical-Lie-345
How sht changes, the people complaining were the one’s rooting for the guy when he was contributing. Now they hating on him. But tbh haven’t noticed much development to his game since joining the league. It’s a long season before pre-season let’s just say that…
Goldelux
He pulled a Dennis without fumbling the bag first.
Lmnolmnop
I never jumped ship.
Sure, he had a bad WCF series, but he had a fantastic series’ against the Warriors and the Grizzlies.
He’s always a threat to go for 20 – **in the 4th quarter alone**.
I say keep him, up to ~25 mil/year.
IcyAuthor1
how many of those wins were against playoffs team? bet it’s like half or something

I don’t know if people are too hard on Russell.
I think it’s during the playoffs that the true value of a player like Russell is expected.
We know what a player he can be in the regular season. But the Lakers want to win the NBA title. They need a Russell who can raise his game in the playoffs when the Lakers’ real season begins.
Austin Reaves was able to do it, for example, when no one expected him to play this hard. That says a lot about this player’s abilities.
For Russell, it may leave some doubt about his ceiling. A very good player, but unable to shine when it counts most. That’s not being harsh.
The Lakers can also say to themselves that he deserves to be seen again at this level of competition, but with LeBron, the title window is short. The Lakers can’t afford to lose another year.

We get a post about him everyday! We get it!

Do y’all understand how bad it is to be a unplayable starter in the wcf? Yes he helped us tons but that’s a non negotiable it’s a reason he’s been moved so many times. Some players have it when it’s time and some don’t.

Hams fault for playing him so much..but he giveth and taketh away.

D’Angelo will be played off the floor against Denver again.
subzero12320931
To be fair, it was really Hams fault. If one of your player is doing bad this series, you bench and limit his mins. Give other guys a try, same goes to Bron, he was chucking Lefuckyou3s that series and bricked most. Hams needs to know when to bench a player when a player killing the momentum.

People really try to silence others criticisms of their fave players by posting these “feel good” post lol. He did help them but he also was not what a good portion of the fan base thought when he got traded. Makes sense why he’s on his 5th team
