Damian Lillard wants to win. He ideally wants to do it with the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard knows that changing teams won’t guarantee success, so he’d prefer the Blazers try and build a competitive team themselves. “I want to have an opportunity to win in Portland,” Lillard said. “We got an opportunity, asset-wise, to build a team that can compete. If we can’t do that…then it’s a separate conversation we would have to have.” The Trail Blazers have the third overall pick at the 2023 NBA Draft. It’s been suggested that Portland could package that pick with current players to bring in win-now talent. Lillard has repeatedly said that has no interest in being a part of a rebuild. That Raptors trade makes sense for Portland, but not Raptors. If Raptors are gonna blow it up, they rather trade them individually to separate teams. They can get more this way rather than appeasing what Portland needs.
