The Miami Heat lost Game 3 of the NBA Finals, but they could have won it. They continue to do things to other teams that forces uncharacteristic mistakes. Does that take some of the edge off the ECF loss? John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal discusses that and then runs down whether Boston could (or should) grab Chris Paul if he’s let go by Phoenix. Also, an early dive into the mailbag for your CBA questions.

Love the new setup. Now it feels like your a real Youtuber
Yes if he wants kyle Lowry role
With new CBA in mind getting books in order looks like signing Jaylen to extension, letting Grant walk (Galanari takes his minutes), Trade Brogdon for a depth piece wing (and maybe a draft pick), and keeping ALL the Bus 1 Boys. After that it’s about Drafting well. Stressful.
If Chris Paul is on the team I hope he can help the team by helping JT and JB he’s a great player plus he can give them some tips
I understand your immediate point…
but I also think that Christian Braun will have hos fair share of "outlier games" and will be a good 6th/7th man in the league for a long time. He's wing-Caruso.
Mike Malone complaining about effort in the NBA finals sounded familiar to me.
You report the Celtics the way they should be. Perfect time frame in depth. Realistic. Yet willing to discuss ideas outside the box.
I don't think it happens but if the Cs want to get off Brogdon's deal, CP's contract is 30 million this year but completely non guaranteed next year, so it's essentially an expiring. Brogdon and Gallo gets you the trade, feel like need some picks added from PHX but they don't have much. But if they really think CP can be a difference maker it could kill 2 birds with 1 stone, get the clutch time playmaker, move off Brogdon's money by next year when Jaylen's supermax hits. It'd be a 1 year go for it all, then need to retool more when JB's supermax hits.
The complain about Brogdon is about his availability and injury history. Isnt Chris Paul just worse in that regard?
I have never been a fan of CP but I think he would work well here. A guy who makes the right play, helps find the best shot on the floor for his team and can knock down that 3 and mid ranger with consistency. The last one alone would help so much with our Zone struggles as he has no issue getting into the middle and hitting that midrange jumper.
Of course, it will depend what we have to give up. Apparently Phoenix are still open to trading him if they can find a deal. Would have to look into the dollars, but I'm sure Phx would take a combo of PP, Malcolm, Grant, Hauser etc. Their biggest issue is depth and they could get some giving up CP
if Paul is 26 years old yes
Im interested in seeing Juhann Begarin in the summer league ive read and seen good things bout his development playing in France the 2 years. He is still very young being only 20 years old and definitely has the size, frame and athleticism to play in the NBA! What i love hearing most bout Bergarin is that he has a very high motor, competes really hard on the defensive side of the ball and loves running in transition ad well as being very active cutting to the rim when off ball. Which is something i think all of us including John has emphasized to see more of from the Celtics for the past few years now.
While he might make some mistakes defensively due to him gambling alot on defense jumping passing lanes his frame and athleticism allows him to recover most the time when he does make those mistakes gambling. Also his size, frame and athlecism allows him to be a versatile defender that i think would fit right in with this Celtics team. I know he might not make a big impact immediately but i do think if given some minutes off the bench say 10-12 minutes a game next season that in a year or 2 he could definitely be a key role player at the wing position which is a major need gor this team imo.
Why are you sooo eager to trade Brogdon?!
Great setup John!
Can't it both be true that Miami played outlier amazing and Boston played like donkey doo??? If Boston had at least played PRETTY good and still lost, I think that would sit a bit better. But, as it is, fans are demanding a head on a stake from Celtics management or SOMETHING… DID THEY NOT WATCH THE SAME SERIES WE DID????
Hey John! TT didn't let them shoot 46% but less than 30%
Chris Paul no no no no and yeah no again
Paul has no desire to come here. He’s going to the Lakers-guaranteed. He & Lebron are tight, like Paul is the godfather of one of LeBroad’s kids tight. It’ll be Bron’s last chance (I feel like next year will be his last) to get another ring and help Paul to try & finally get his first. Bet on it. No veto this time..😂🤣
I hate to be trite, but you know, that's sports. I've been a Warriors fan since 1965 (!) and in the last series with the Lakers, three of the games were very close, and Klay Thompson's shooting was horrible and Steph Curry's was just bad, so … with all of the trouble and bullshit the Warriors had this season along with crazy rotations, had "the splash brothers" just splashed decently, the Warriors would have been in the WCF and would have had a decent chance against Denver and Miami, and this Warriors team was not a great one, not even close. There are no great teams right now in the NBA, it is VERY competitive , great talent on MANY teams, including the Celtics. So these series often come down to a couple of games where one of your players is having an unusually bad game or one of the other team's players is having an unusually great game.
Boston has a world of talent but lacks the killer mentality. They saved face after being down 3-0 but it should never have gotten to that.
They need to clone Jimmy Butler. CP is too injury prone and too much of a dick to be the answer.
Chris Paul?? NO F WAY! GO TO LA
Unfortunately the Celtics struggled with the Hawks, 76ers, and Heat. They clearly underperformed in the playoffs despite relative good health. Celtics talent plus Heat heart would be a dynasty.
No Bostons loss to Miami was beyond embarrassing and as bad as it gets. People forget we went down 0-3 and only talk about game 7 which is the game we got blown out at home. Idc if JT got injured we have all that firepower and unlike the Celtics when the heat miss guys they step
Up. They didn’t play without their 2nd leading scorer this whole
Run and we are making excuses for these guys and saying its probably not as bad when we’ve been seeing the same problem for years. There is no reason this team shouldn’t have a championship in the last 2 years, usually when you see a team like this lose in a finals like that the next chance they get to the next playoffs they get better atleast I won’t even set the bar high and say they win a chip. But you have all this talent which most of them has been together for awhile played the heat 20+ times in the playoffs and still can’t figure out their zone or execute down the stretch. Sure it could be this team isn’t as good as we think they are they def proved that and you could add who you want unless those problems are addressed by leaders which is also not our strongest suit, I guess you could call Al or smart our leader but they can’t do it by example on the highest level one of the Jays need to be that. The Jays have their own problems, still
Don’t have a guard who can get them easy shots we hired a coach who is 34 with no experience and thinks getting up most 3s is the best way to win games and doesn’t know how to bring the best with what he has yet. Smh there are a lot of problems with this team but can’t
Deny there was plenty there to beat Miami good thing we actually have to play rather then handing a roster list in or our team maybe then we would be champs. But going out like we did game 7 is as bad as it gets
Saying the outlier games that miami are playing now is taking credit away from them. Caleb Martin finally cooled down he could be an outlier but he’s been alright the whole playoffs, Gabe Vincent has been knocking down 3’s. The heat are playing that zone that we couldn’t figure out for years but obviously the nuggets know how to play against it after games in the regular szn and 3 games in the finals. Miami has been shooting 40% by the 3 and was the lowest scoring plus a low percentage 3 point shooting team in the regular szn. Simarly they live and die by the 3 like we do but it just didn’t happen in the wrong time like it did for us. Difference is Bam and Jimmy aren’t jacking up 3s like JT having 8 TO like JB and are excellent In the 4th quarter while executing down the stretch unlike Boston we were terrible down the stretch. Tho you can say the amount of 3s are outliers and aren’t some of the undrafted players normal percentage but that doesn’t mean leave a professional wide open and let Duncan Robinson take you to the basket that many times and make Caleb Martin look like an all NBA player.
Before I watch…CP3? Sorry, is it 2015? Uh no, not it's not. HE'S THIRTY-EIGHT; older than Al.
I have to agree with the Hot Goalie analogy (Bill Ranford, 1990? Nightmares…), or a Villanova 1985/Dodgers 1988 kind of thing.
I think it's what we said going into the ECF: Miami will, almost never, beat itself. YOU have to defeat them.
And I have to say this: we blather and whine non-stop that the Jays don't have "killer instinct," can't close out games, etc. CP has made an ENTIRE CAREER of not closing out games/series/winning big games. This is yet another example of how "star power" obviates basic analysis and common sense in the NBA universe. And did I mention the dude's 38?
