When people say he doesn’t care about individual achievements or stats, he genuinely does not care. It’s not “every professional athlete cares about stats and awards and he’s just faking it for the press” like the comments that always pop up in these threads say. He has always said the same stuff. He does not give a shit. The only accolade he’s ever cared about was the Nuggets assist record because he said it shows he’s a good teammate

  2. Balls_of_Adamanthium

There’s a lot of guys that pretend not to give a shit about the stats but in reality they do. Jokić is not one of them.

  3. Lookmeinmyeyesandlie

Americans are obsessed with numbers period, money, rates, stats etc.

  4. GovernmentDoingStuff

They aren’t even obsessed with stats, they’re obsessed with narratives like a goddamn soap opera.

I understand that’s what sells, but it’s the worst

  5. ThatBballIQ

See, Jokic doesn’t want anyone to talk about stats anymore. No more Jokic debates on nba sub reddit!

  6. dys0n_giddey

Joker and Jimmy should be on the same team together

  7. MrFishownertwo

I feel like that connects with the american obsession with individual greatness and talent

I agree and it’s gotten like this for high school basketball. Which you should dominate but if you play for a team with other ranked/D1 talent you aren’t gonna average 20-25 points and the things I see some of these dudes get hated on because they don’t play at a public school shooting 25 shots a game.

  9. Emergency-Dot-8611

NBA media ask Jokic about anything else challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

  10. ichosetobehere

It’s not just American sports media, it’s the fans. Check out this sub lol

Jokic just plays winning basketball and the stats follow. You can’t get assists if your teammates don’t score. You can’t score if you’re teammates don’t put you in a position to score

  12. nflfan32

It’s fine that Jokic doesn’t care, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing for the media to enjoy stats. Watching the first-ever 30-20-10 triple double in NBA Finals history is a cool feat. To me it’d be boring if sports media *only* talked about team success.

  13. Personal_Quantity_55

I’m sure I’m alone on this but the one thing I don’t like about Jokics likable personality is the complete refusal to acknowledge he is a great player.

Like… dude… you’re a living legend. Can we just appreciate you please? Why is it so annoying for him to be admired? It’s bizarre

  14. Gocrazyfut

Yes. Definitely just an American thing.

  15. redonkulus

He legit tanked the last month of the season to avoid another MVP award. Killed my fantasy team because of it.

Jokic DESTROYS r/nba nephews with FACTS and LOGIC

  17. griffskry

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, Jokic is a basketball socialist. The vanguard of the basketball revolution. He siezes the means of point production and distributes it amongst the hard working role players

  18. ProfessionalCorgi250

I think it’s related to the popularity of soccer. Watching soccer helps you appreciate contributions that don’t get picked up in the stat sheet. You learn to appreciate players playing their designated role well. Zidane never scored 20 goals in a season but his highlights are amazing.

The new Korver Bird. *SQUAWK, TEAM BASKETBALL*

  20. CaffeineJunkee

He reminds me of Adam Sandler in The Waterboy explaining what he does to be such a good football player.

  21. WhileFalseRepeat

    Preach.

I understand the desire to become historically relevant, but Jokic is proof you can do that in ways other than individual glory.

  22. Dudedude88

This video encapsulates how much he doesn’t care. You can tell he wants to never answer a stats question ever but is too nice to say no to them.

  23. bloodmuffins793

That’s my 300 pound sloppy fat boy

  24. elbrandonoliver

Scottie is losing his mind right now.

  25. california-whiskey

this dude cooked us and somehow i still love him

  26. farfetchchch

It’s true. Every single playoff game a player seems to break some oddly specific “record”.

Some random shit like “first player to have 3 steals and shoot at least 60% from the free throw line in the first half since Branson McWendys in 1983”.

  27. MakesYourMise

Jokic very much aware that Murray is the head of the snake

  28. IamNOBODY1973

This is obviously a slight directed at stat padding Giannis.

  29. NuggetEagle

I love Jokic and i love his mentality, but i am also a huge stats guy, have been all my life, in all sports. Stats mean nothing until they do. They don’t mean anything in a one off game but when you check Jokics W/L when recording a triple double this season for example, you can see it directly has an impact on the Nuggets winning. Every stat will be proven wrong/false at one point, but the bigger the sample size, the better the indication how they impact the game. Anyway, love Joker and really want to see his reaction if/when this team wins it all
