I did not know they were allowed to do that

  2. billsfan13

That seems like an incredibly bad trade for the Thunder

  3. Cheechers23

    ???

So they get an extra second rounder this year, as well as another first next year. They have 2 firsts next year, wonder if they wanted to have an earlier pick than 2029 to use in trades?

  4. wanapmango

somebody’s messing with the 2K trade finder lmao

  5. levlk93

Are we just giving away picks? Someone explain this??

Also, what is going on in Denver? ☝️🧐☝️

  6. akulkarnii

Denver had enough of the media disrespect and decided to make a blockbuster trade

  7. Boldest19

In 2024, OKC owns: own pick, Houston (top 4 protected), Clippers (unprotected), Utah (top 10 protected)

Denver probably has a draft crush in the second round of this draft

  9. They must really like someone in the second round.

  10. AssyrianRhapsody

Denver needs these picks to keep depth on rookie deals while staying under the second apron. Expect to see more of this type of trade with the new CBA.

  11. LastPhoton

This is probably so they can trade for a role player this offseason. They want to go back to back it seems

These are the kind of trades you have to make when you have roster crunch. The Hornets currently are running low on roster spots and have 5 picks in this draft. OKC is in a similar spot. But like for us its like do we want to punt on guys like JT Thor or Bouk to create a roster spot for an early second rounder? We have 5 picks and 3 roster spots. And thats if we only resign PJ and Miles, if we bring back Oubre and DSJ we have 1 roster spot.

Everyone loves accumulating assets but if you have 15 first round picks over 5 years at some point you have to totally consolidate assets because you run out of minutes/ bench seats. You cant put first rounders in the g league without a roster spot.

Are they hoping that Denver will be blown up by 2029, and the pick is lightly (top 4) protected?

  14. herbertstan

OKC is having a massive issue that nobody seems to talk about: they have way too many damn picks and way too many promising young players that they are trying to develop. Just simply not enough roster spots or minutes.

Other GMs are going to be able to get favorable trades from Presti because they know OKC has to get rid of all these picks somehow

2029 pick made me laugh. Trading for middle schoolers.

  16. beary_neutral

The heat death of the universe will happen before that pick conveys

  17. TheRealJohnMara

Also included in the trade was Jokic, effective today.

    One can hope…

  18. luke_workin

Good for Denver. Allows them more opportunities to add cost controlled talent like Christian Braun.

  19. HarryOttoman

I wonder who Calvin Booth has his eye in this years draft

  20. joebreezy12

to everyone asking why — from the thunder’s perspective, they have potentially 4 FRPs next year and can’t use them all. This way, Presti gets an extra ’29 FRP down the road, when the Thunder are competitive. Thunder will still have at least 2 FRPs next season.

  21. Mild-Sauce

really don’t see anything wrong with this. presti risking the ~20th pick next season for a possible top 10 pick in 2029 the thunder can use as an asset after they won their first three peat

  22. FrankieBarbingo

You can make trades while in the fucking Finals?

  23. TurbulentJudge1000

Unless this is only a top 3 protected pick in 2029, this is a bad trade.

  24. osusris

they found the second Jokic, somebody stop them before he reaches pick 37

  25. rtels2023

The 4 firsts OKC has in 2024 are their own, Rockets, Jazz, and Clippers. So whichever of those 4 is lowest will go to the Nuggets.

  26. Rishikrish29

Smart trade on both sides, with the new CBA it’s smarter for teams to keep first round picks rather than look into free agency. Denver is gonna be deep in the cap with being a contender so getting firsts now helps them get players. OKC still has most of their current core on their rookie contract, but by 2029 they’ll probably be deep into the cap as well assuming they stay course and become perennial contenders, meaning they won’t be able to be as active in free agency and will have to look to the draft to grab players

  27. AnkitPancakes

Likely some subset of lottery protected (top5/top8/top10/top14). But the 2024 pick was gonna be like pick #25. at the least i’d imagine this pick has a decent chance of being in the teens and if we’re lucky maybe higher.

    this is a threefold deal

    1. acquire a higher value pick straight up

    2. if we had to utilize the pick next year, we’d have some problem w roster spots so this just kicks the problem down the road

    3. more ammo during what should be out core’s peak years

  28. Elephantparrot

I don’t get people questioning this trade. This isn’t Billy King making a trade. It’s Presti, if he’s doing it, it makes sense for them.

  29. Ecstatic-Buy-2907

Presti probably scouting a 13 year old kid and deciding “yeah, that’s who I want to pair with SGA in the future”

  30. Constantine227

Didn’t know you could do this

  31. XenaRen

Great trade for Denver. They’re pretty good at drafting and getting three chances to add another rotational player on a cheap contract could be huge.

Makes sense for OKC since they can’t roster all the picks they draft in the upcoming years and honestly a slight overpay for a pick in 6 years depending on the protections. But that’s the issue with hoarding picks… teams know you HAVE to consolidate at one point and will lineup to low ball you.

  32. Laganni

Denver still owes Oklahoma City a 2027 Top-5 protected first-round pick.

  33. swestyyy

I don’t really get the sentiment this is bad or a problem for OKC? We have a superfluous amount of picks compared to our roster spots and we should be deep into contending in 2029. Denver *may* be close to or already blowing it up at that point, so it seems like a solid bet for us.

And of course it gives Denver more immediate flexibility, so win-win imo.

  34. Distance_Motor

How is this even possible? They’re literally playing in the finals.
