Why The Celtics Should PAY Jaylen Brown, Not Trade Him

The predictable calls for a shakeup have been issued in Boston following the Celtics’ latest postseason elimination. Jaylen Brown is drawing the most scrutiny considering he’s now eligible for the biggest contract in NBA history.

But believe it or not, Boston’s best path to championship no. 18 is actually paying Brown and standing pat.

  1. They can probably win, but is that a guarantee? Also, will it be sustainable? 90s Bulls, 2000s Lakers and 2010s Warriors had their run by having one of their superstars in a cheap contract.

  2. If Celtics pay Brown, they will never win a championship.

  3. He's not worth 300M, thus he should not get 300M. simple as that. 200 for 5 years otherwise we trade you – take it or leave it.

  4. Jaylen Brown should go to Houston
Marcus Smart should go to Portland
Dame Dolla should go to Boston.
Lillard and Tatum would bring a ring to the Celtics, 100%

  5. Question: is supermax considered as regular maximum contract for CBA considerations or the team screwed if they draft the guy and pay him the supermax?

So in short drafting or trading is better for building a team assuming talent would be similar?

  6. Jb deserves a supermax however jt deserves it more next year they could sign both for the super max however if they do this they wont have any depth they would sign minimum veteran contract scrubs like Carmelo anthonies last seasons is the best you can get

  7. Even at hos best, brown ain't worth a supermax. A max sure, but not supermax

  8. Celtics at a weird cross road because they know that as soon as they trade one of Brown, Tatum, and Smart, their career will immediately take off, but on the other hand, I wonder how they feel about paying 290 million supermax to a guy who can't dribble and pass in one play at the playoff

Should've gotten a new coach right after Heat series ended – I would've taken Nick Nurse because of his sole ability to unlock players abilities.

  9. Doesn’t deserve even half of that $290 million** super max. 8 turnovers in game 7

  10. My left testicle has better shot selection and basketball IQ than Jaylen Brown. No disrespect. I’m a Celtics fan as well

  11. Reminds me of the Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum situation.. Two stars that play very similar styles rarely work on the same team

  12. It doesn’t matter as much if the Celtics get a talent downgrade as long as whoever that might be has a skill set that isn’t as redundant with Tatum’s as Brown’s is. Those two just don’t mesh as well as other duos simply because they really don’t have complimentary styles. So if they get a player who isn’t as good as Brown but can play off of Tatum far better, it’s still an upgrade. People need to realize that it’s not all about talent, fit is also incredibly important.

  13. I don't completely buy in with the offensive stats nowadays specifically about efficiency. You can't compare Kobe, Jordan, Bird, or anyone else's era. This notion of "most efficient in league history" or "most points in league history", league history this and that, it doesn't matter.

Again, context matters. Wanna know they're so efficient? Less physicality and more wide open lanes thanks to the zone. It's become much more easier to space the floor, again easier, not easy, there's a difference. It's still gonna be difficult to score against other athletic players who are basically the top players in the world, but comparing it to eras with bad spacing, these NBA players would have it easier, especially the stars.

I'm not discrediting them, what they are doing within this era of space is amazing, especially Jokic, but comparing or using it to compare it to other eras is not really valid

  14. When Tatum got hurt, that’s was Jaylens last chance to prove his worth, and he couldn’t dribble left. Paying him won’t make his left hand better.

  15. Jaylen Brown deserves every PENNY, remember this Jaylen Brown not enter his PRIME & Curry, LeBron, Jordan and Antetokounmpo won 1st championship in their career 27+ age

  16. Trade him to a disciplined playmaker like Haliburton. The Celtics have been turning the ball over so many times on crucial moments because of Tatum and Brown trying to be point guards. Haliburton seems to make the right decisions on pressure moments.

  17. It shouldn't matter to give him an insane extension because their will always be others that will eventually be more overpaid? That's quite the interesting theroy

  18. The Celtics should trade JB and Al Horford to the Cavs for Mobley,Garland and Jarret Allen.

  19. Just watched Nuggets game 4, Aaron Gordon is solid and has the ability to penetrate, making all kinds of shots, rebounds, strong. His salary is also a bargain at this moment. Aaron for JB

  20. Just watched Nuggets game 4, Aaron Gordon is solid and has the ability to penetrate, making all kinds of shots, rebounds, strong. His salary is also a bargain at this moment. Aaron for JB. JB stat looks great but in game 7 ,all disappeared, don't need that

  21. Dude people have complete recentency bias. The mans gotten better every year and lets not forget who didn't show up last year. Cough, Cough, Tatum.
