2nd, Try to tread the needle between the two timelines.
OG and Ayton would be huge upgrades defensively. A starting lineup if Dame, Sharpe, OG, Grant, Ayton with a rotation of Scoot, Thybulle, Reddish, Capella is good enough to realistically push for WCF. Especially if Sharpe takes the next step or Scoot really pops. Sharpe, OG, Grant can all space the floor around Dame/Ayton pick and rolls. Can also go small with Grant/OG playing a small five and bring in a guy like Tisse for a more defensively switchable lineup. Can also retain guys like Winslow, Eubanks, and Watford for depth in season. I would worry about secondary playmaking with this team, which is where you hope that Scoot can be a high caliber player day one to fill that role when he is on the floor.
Why Chicago does this:
2nd round picks are going to be super valuable under new CBA. They need more draft capital and may be willing to trade quantity for quality in the hopes that they can get lucky with one out of five tries instead of one try (Albeit with a higher pick). Also, if Portland does not have resources to trade they will just tank, further pushing out the pick.
Why Toronto does this:
FVV is leaving. Trent is leaving. They need guards. Ant is young enough to be a building block piece for the future. He has proven he can get you 25 a night on good efficiency. Can play make a little, but can also play off Scottie without the ball in his hands, allowing the one time ROY to continue developing as a point forward. Also, Ant’s defensive liability gets hidden on a great team defense like Toronto. Paired with Dame he was much easier to exploit.
Landry is still only 25 years old and a near 40% 3pt shooter. Honestly, he is a middle of the rotation depth piece. Not a needle mover but nice to have a guy that can give you 15 minutes a night and knows his role.
23rd pick. Chance to grab a nice young player in the back half of the first round.
Why Fred Does This:
Fred opts in to go to a contender, even if he thinks he could maybe get more in the free market. It’s one year, so he takes a pay cut to play with Booker and KD. Trade does not happen unless he picks up his player option.
Why Phoenix Does This:
They want off Ayton. Nurk is like 75% of the player at only 50% of the cost. They have actually been linked to Nurk in some trade rumors, if you buy into those rumors as legit. Who knows if they are real. FVV gives them the point guard they are looking for on a one year deal, meaning they don’t have to commit to the future or give up draft capital to get him. FVV, Booker, and KD is a crazy offensive lineup. If they are able to bring back CP3 on a cheaper deal like some people think is possible, FVV could spend some time off ball in two guard lineups. Maybe not as good as Harden, but do you really want to commit to paying for three years of Harden to lure him to Phoenix when he is already in a pretty steep decline?
Little is depth and the pick is sweetener. Probably would need it to be only like top 4 protected.

Well for some reason raptors fans think OG’s expiring is worth 3rd pick plus simons.
