“Is Jokic better than prime Shaq?” LOL

I keep seeing threads about this. Shaq would eat him alive.

From an offensive package standpoint, Jokic would pull Shaq out to the perimeter and make some elite passes. But if he tried Shaq in the post, Shaq would definitely make it harder than a 6’9 Bam.

On defense, Jokic would get annihilated.

The problem is you have to beat Jokic with your team that’s what makes him dangerous

This happens every post season. Last year people were asking if Curry is top 5, and the year before if Giannis is better than Duncan?

  3. Tbh offensively I think Jokic is better. He can contribute with assists. But shaq is still greater even if Jokic wins this year wtf

  4. CollisionCourse78

Shaq was powerful as well as quick for a man at his prime. He (Shaq)didn’t need his hands to move people around . Lol there’s no comparison.

Jokić is way more skilled on the offensive side of the ball than Duncan, and Timmy obviously did terrible against the Lakers…

I remember Shaq playing against Sabonis. The guy did cause problems for Shaq on offense because he had a somewhat similar game to Jokic. Jokic has certainly taken it to another level and is probably healthier that Sabonis was in his time. What would inevitably happen though was Shaq would punish him on the other end and get him in foul trouble. Jokic would basically have to make the choice between letting Shaq have his way or getting in foul trouble. Teams employed 3 bigs on their teams to deal with Shaq because of the foul problems he cause. Todays NBA most teams have 2 big guys at the most and a lot are smaller than the ones Shaq played against.

People look at box scores and advanced stats instead of watching film. Takikg nothing away from Jokic, but Shaq was so impossible to stop he literally ran through everyone for 3 straight years and broke the game.

The 2:14 mark is one of my favorite Shaq plays of all time. Absolutely destroys one of the strongest and best defenders in NBA history in David Robinson. Filthy fucking move.

  9. _Zap_Rowsdower_

Definitely more skilled. Jokic needs his career to play out before talking about being better than Shaq.

  10. Jokic got destroyed by Embid this season. If he can’t handle Embid, what they hell is Jokic going to with Shaq.

I’m a big Shaq fan, but I guess it is about rules.

Nowadays it is tougher for players that live in the paint unless you have the floor perfectly spaced. If we talk about 2000 rules Shaq would destroy as he did.

With the pace and no hand checking of today’s game I believe prime Kobe/Jordan could eventually average 45 ppg.

No current player would be able to handle prime Shaq down low, but someone else would have to check Jokic outside the paint because even in his prime Shaq was a lazy pick n roll defender and wasn’t willing to chase players like Rasheed Wallace outside of the paint area.

Shaq was more dominant. Joker has more skills. But I would take Shaq over Joker. If I had to choose. I don’t think Joker can defend Shaq for 4 quarters. Shaq will swat Jokers shot away in the paint for 4 quarters plus OT

Prime Shaq was an absolute monster. It’s hard to compare them though. Totally different games. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Jokic can possibly go down as one of the best big men to ever play the game. He’s only like what, 28?

This question should be asked again in 10 years or so

  14. redundantPOINT

Eh. It can be argued but let’s bring it up again when the NBA changes a few rules because Jokic is dominating so much.

  15. the-pak-man

Jokic is way more skilled, but would stand no chance against prime Shaq. It’s like a light heavyweight vs. heavyweight.

  16. Oldskool0037

Jokic is playing against undersized centers with todays touchy foul rules. Jokic, going up against Shaq for 4 quarters, would be so tired and bruised that he’d be useless. Shaq was just too physically dominant.

  17. SimpleJacked2TheTits

They’re completely different players. Shaq was one of the most dominant players ever. What Jokic is doing right now is one of the most impressive offensive displays we’ve ever seen. He’s putting together an offensive postseason only surpassed by LBJ and MJ (full post season).

Shaq did it for many years and had b2b2b finals MVPs, so we’re not debating career. What the serb is doing right now, though, is absolutely historic. We’re witnessing GOAT level basketball. The guy is a fucking savant.

  18. Dirtylittlesecret88

I mean as a well rounded player Yea sure i guess. But Shaq is just way more dominant in the paint that you should pick him first everytime. You can find other players to do the other things Shaq lacks skills in.

  19. dat_dude_wes

The only way to stop Shaq was to hack him, hence the Hack a Shaq rule. Shaq would eat him alive in the low block.

  20. LemonPepperWangz

    More talented.
    Without a doubt.

    More dominant.
    Hell no.

    Better? Debatable

  21. niknokseyer

    Different play styles.

They are both good and dominating in different ways.

  22. ILikeit__7

Maybe more skilled than shaq but shaq was the most dominant player I ever watched.

  23. Practical-Tailor-273

Jokic is better offensively thats about it

  24. Academic-Principle14

There’s a difference in who would win 1 on 1 and who’s better at elevating teammates in an actual 5 on 5 game…ya know…the way basketball is actually played.

When are y’all gonna realize the deck was stacked in the Lakers’ favor during that 3 peat? Did y’all really think the Kidd Nets or Iverson 76ers had a chance against a team with the most dominant interior scorer ever plus and elite two way wing? Those teams the Lakers beat in the Finals weren’t great and Kobe was shitting on all the other #2 options in the league.

There’s alot of elite duos in the NBA today. Field is much deeper…there’s way better competition and please don’t argue with me. Nuggets spanked the ‘23 Lakers and the ‘23 Lakers would literally shit on any team the early 2000 Lakers beat. That shows you how good the Nuggets are right now, and it’s because of Jokic.
