    >By the numbers, Jokic is far and away the biggest such disrupter in the league. Over the regular season, he kicked the ball during an opponent’s possession 47 times—usually flinging a mammoth sneaker out into a passing lane when a guard is trying to slip the ball past Jokic’s hip to a big man. The mark was nearly twice the previous record since 2002-03, the earliest season for which Stats Perform has kicked-ball data. It’s more than all but 21 teams have ever collected across their whole rosters.

When your BBIQ is so high but your athleticism can’t keep up.

  3. Jokic is unbelievably good at using the kick ball violation in his favor. Last game I think there were two separate times where he saved easy buckets by just sticking his foot in the way

I’m not sure if him utilizing the rule so well warrants a change at the moment but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens anyway to discourage more people from trying it in the future

  4. Careless_Truth_3535

I wonder if the NBA starts penalizing this in the future. “The Jokic Rule”

  5. Fit-Ad-6835

I counted at least 4 last game. The “punishment” for it is so minor, keep on kickin

  6. MSKOnlyScans

I remember Zach Lowe talking about this a while back I think as a criticism of Jokic at the time lol.

I hate how people have low-key complained about this this year. He’s clearly smart enough, and capable of doing it at a crazy level that nobody else is doing.

The solution? Stop throwing shitty passes that he can kick! It’s not rocket science.

  8. TaxWizard69

Nuggets going to start recruiting defenders from Brazilian football clubs

  9. Coicromoxeriamq

Member when all the bitter bitch 76ers fans tried to pretend this was some kind of massive knock against Jokic? I member

Edit: Oof guess the bitter bitches found my post. You guys enjoying Cancun or what? Lmfao

I genuinely do think they’re going to change the rules around kicked ball violations. The fact that there’s no penalty besides the shotclock going back to 14 if it’s under seems like more defenders should be taking advantage of this rule

  11. Hazard_4

I remember in like March Zach Lowe was complaining about jokic constantly doing it and everyone was saying it wasn’t real defense/ wasn’t a basketball move or whatever. Never made much sense to me definitely helped last night.

  12. Misterstaberinde

    Rules getting changed for sure.

  13. Intrepid-Concern2978

I hate that shit with a passion I know a dude who does that bs in pick up games. Should be a tech, there is no way anybody should be defending that lazy crap

  14. frogfucius

So if this is such an egregious and exploitable loophole in the rules why aren’t more players doing it?

  15. online_computer

Kicking should just be allowed and we will change the sport name to baskoccer

  16. IntelligentQuickley

Most elite defensive centers have the alien wingspan or speed to steal the ball, idt anyone is attempting bounce passes consistently around giannis, gobert, Fraudel embiid, capela, porzingis, mitchell robinson, wendell carter, brook lopez, bam, and JJJ.

  17. oldirtynumbers

What gives this mess some grace unless it’s kicks, man?

  18. Everytime one of these kicked ball threads come up, you can tell who didn’t play basketball.

Literally every coach ive ever had has coached me to deny entry or pocket passes high with the hands and low with sticking a foot or leg out. It’s incredibly common

  19. WinterCareful8525

Make it a team tech this summer and move on

  20. Snoo14937

How does this effect Messi’s legacy?

  21. Ninja_knows

Is there a record this dude won’t break? 😂

  22. discostupid

it’s a misnomer to call this a kick, his foot is in the way and the ball hits it, that’s not really a kick

penalizing having the ball hit your foot makes no sense whatsoever, and will be instantly exploited by offense for minimal risk, especially with the shotclock <10 s or so

  23. Away_Championship_49

But I thought Embiid’s defense was very important, so now he’s beat on offense AND defense?

  24. Enough_Lakers

People who think this will be legislated with a penalty of any sort please bet me money. The only thing that might happen is to reset the shot clock which is well worth it. You guys sound ridiculous.

  25. MumenriderPaulReed69

Cause he’s not fast enough on D. It’s alright

  26. NotUrAvgShitposter

This is a smart play, but y’all better keep the same energy for flopping.

  27. Foul baiting giving offense advantage for years has ruined the game, but if Jokic restarts the clock than the league should intervene immediately? Lol. Offense has a huge advantage already, imagine if players couldn’t make lateral movements because of guards just aiming at there legs and anticipating defender movement. Also, just find better angle for pass, do not expect defender to just let you do it. Another thing that would be ruined is defending inbound pass. Maybe punish ft merchants, flopping and traveling for example, you know, things that affect the game so much more

  28. Diegolikesandiego

Should kicked balls in basketball have the same punishment that handballs have in soccer then?

  29. Doesn’t matter Zach Lowe said it’s not a basketball play

  30. SaintSavage1

Honestly don’t understand why more don’t take advantage of the rules. I mean you’re never gonna get a technical for it no matter how many times you’re going to do it

  31. Kommander-in-Keef

You don’t hear about someone using a kickball violation as a strategy but for Jokic it might be true

  32. ZealouxcgvSir

start recruiting defenders from Brazilian football clubs
