The Trail Blazers Should NOT Trade Anfernee Simons…

It’s being reported that the Portland Trail Blazers are willing to trade budding young star Anfernee Simons in the coming weeks. Many believe that Portland will try to attach Simons with the third overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, in an attempt to land a star sidekick for Damian Lillard in a trade. But I’m here to tell you that would be a mistake. The just turned 24-year old averaged 21 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game last season in his first year as the full-time starter. Yet the team would seemingly gladly give him away to build a playoff team around 33 year old Damian Lillard. I’m sorry to say this, but any of the players they’d trade Simons and the pick for, would now turn this team into championship contenders. The west has a great group of teams at the top that will remain contenders for at least next season and likely beyond. It’s not time to blow up the young core to help Dame. It’s time to deal Lillard, and build around Simons, Sharpe, the third pick, and whoever they get in the deal. They’d have one of the league’s best young cores, and a clear future. And in the games without Dame this season, Simons was a star. He put up 28 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds per game on 46/41/94 splits. The Portland Trail Blazers should NOT trade Anfernee Simons, even if they keep Lillard.

Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 8k!!!

  1. They need to give Anfrnee 1 year as primary ball handler and see how he does. trade lillard and keep the pick.

  2. Simons and Sharpe are the future the blazer should package the 3rd pick with Dame and see what they could get

  3. fantastic analysis. keep doing videos like this. can you do one on myles turner and how the pacers should trade him.

  4. So they should trade Damian Lillard instead? They will have too many guards long-term with Lillard, Sharpe, and Simons if you are advocating for Portland to keep Simons.

  5. Let's be honest with ourselves here – a trio of Simons, Lillard, and Sharpe is not viable long-term for the Portland Trail Blazers. Not trying to argue with you but given that Damian Lillard is largely regarded as Portland's unquestioned face of the franchise (and I doubt Portland will trade Lillard and I also doubt Lillard will ask out of Portland) and Shaedon Sharpe has massive upside moving forward as Portland's SG of the future and a future cornerstone in Portland, Anfernee Simons may find himself as the odd man out.

  6. If pick 3 is scoot and you trade dame; you have to trade ant also IMO as a blazer fan. We just went a decade with 2 non defending guards under 6ft 4… if I’m rebuilding I don’t want the same (scoot isn’t the shooter Dame is either) I’d trade ant and play sharpe at the 2 and rebuild from there.

  7. As a die-hard Blazers fan I hafta say….
Big Herm got this one right..
