If I remember correctly, Pat Mahomes rode the bench the majority of his rookie season behind Alex Smith. I'd say everything worked out for him pretty well by not being rushed in as the starter.
So far, I have heard…
1.Starting O-Line looks really good, but there are questions about our depth. The Shaq/Howard tandem looked elite, and Deiter looks fantastic at LG. Our backups do not look so hot. The report I listened to said that Charlie Heck had a really bad day. Id like to add that Coach Ryans did say something to the effect that it's too early to judge O-line play, especially when they are not wearing any pads yet.
2. If we do have one of the better secondaries in the league, then it's a positive that our offence gets to play them. It can only make us better.
CJ had an up and down day on Day 1 with some bright spots, and he had a bounce back day on day 2. The majority of his throws on day 2 were absolutely perfect with the exception of one bad one. Apparently, the receiver went the wrong way and it turned into a pick 6. These are the kind of learning/teachable moments that you actually want in practice.
According to Stoots there have been a few throws that CJ has made that can separate him from Mills. There are some throws that CJ can make and has made look easy, that Mills would probably have a hard time with. I didn't hear or read that about day 2, but that was what I heard about CJ's throwing ability observed by Stoots on day 1.
3. I'm glad that Ari mentioned Schultz because his addition to our team is in my mind the 4th most exciting addition for the Texans this offseason behind: Coach Ryans, Stroud, & Anderson. I agree that Schultz should probably get a ton of looks and receptions this upcoming season.
Why haven’t we heard anything about will anderson
