[Givony] Sources tell ESPN the Warriors are also exploring the option of acquiring a high draft pick in exchange for a young prospect such as Jonathan Kuminga

> Sources tell ESPN the Warriors are also exploring the option of acquiring a high draft pick in exchange for a young prospect

Givony mocked Jett Howard to the Warriors at 19th.

[Shams Charania & Anthony Slater on 5/12](https://theathletic.com/4515361/2023/05/13/warriors-offseason-free-agency-trades-draymond-green-bob-myers/):
> The Warriors and Kuminga’s representatives are expected to discuss his future this offseason, league sources say. Golden State will need to decide whether Kuminga will receive a full-time role moving forward, and, if not, league sources say the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft will want to be somewhere he can play more
such as Jonathan Kuminga

[Tim Kawakami’s Take](https://twitter.com/timkawakami/status/1669031786415013888):

> If [@DraftExpress](https://twitter.com/DraftExpress) says the Warriors are exploring things with Kuminga, I believe it. But this is all part of a larger picture–is Draymond staying? What player would GSWs be targeting? Could be paths to keep Kuminga and paths to move him and figuring out which is happening now.

> And mostly: Who is making these calls for the Warriors? I presume it’s Dunleavy-Lacob-Lacob-etc., but that’s just a presumption. Also: What’s happening with Poole? Lots of things to sort out.

[Another (Plus a Reminder)](https://twitter.com/timkawakami/status/1669041185644777473):

> A lot of moving pieces. Here’s a regular note: **All teams have to explore all things. Most of them never happen.**

i think this is smokescreen. just a hunch.

Wow, didn’t even include the long “Nooooooooooooo.” What a travesty of a gif.

Good to be back.. well I think someone probably said “We’re exploring all options at this time.” and the reporter spun it into a headline. I don’t think they want an *even younger* prospect. The only way this might even be feasible is if there were things behind the scenes about Kuminga’s attitude that Kerr and the coaching staff don’t like and they want to move on from him.

  4. Crackedandimplat

Why would you trade a talented rookie who you need to develop for a high pick for a rookie who you still would need to develop???

  5. arsene_0

First off welcome back gang. Secondly, this sounds really dumb. If they don’t want to develop someone like Kuminga why would you trade for a younger prospect that needs even more development?

  6. Ok-Roof-978

Was reading earlier is because of what he said. Something about a guarantee for minutes or trade him.

Guess been on kerr’s bad side all season bc he kept asking for more playing time. The article said he came off as “entitled” to Kerr.

So now, they’re looking to move him.

It’s all bizzaro world rn. Trade a young player for a younger player. Not sure it’s a “light years ahead” move. We’ll see. Stay tuned …

Trading Kuminga now would be selling low after he got benched in the playoffs. We all know how good he can be and it would be stupid to trade him for a pick unless it puts us in a position to get one of the best players in the draft.

  8. sugarwax1

If we had a new GM, an overhauled development team, and a new war room to pick the replacement project…. then maybe. But we don’t, so this is stupid. If they had a sure thing pick, then maybe? It’s not like they can go back in time and trade Kuminga and the Wiseman pick for Ant. That’s the level of player they need for this to make sense.

  9. asBad_asItGets

If they do this that will be TWO top 10 draft picks they gave up on within 3 years. And considering Kerr’s and the vets’ disdain for giving rooks any playing time, probably will be 3 top 10s in 5 years.

  10. ndlowprosb

So we can draft another rookie who’s not going to play?

  11. bdylan05

So happy r/Warriors is back online.

So sad to hear this rumor. If they trade JK…

Do not trade Kuminga for a fucking rookie 😂

  13. Mmicb0b

Even from a “Kerr and Kuminga don’t like each other” standpoint this makes no fucking sense why would they trade a raw prospect for more than likely another one the only prospect(other than Wemby but I’m not sure what it’d take to get Wemby) this would make a little bit of sense is for Scoot and even then he’d not start over Steph for a few years

  14. BeetLover1111

I’m convinced that this report and the one saying the warriors are not actively looking to trade Poole are both PR moves.

  15. giraffesbluntz

This makes zero sense for so many reasons

  16. GarvinSteve

This 100% works depending only on who they get. I’d prefer we keep JK.

  17. Tankzy559

One of the locked on warriors hosts said we were targeting Ausar Thompson if we move up.

    But that’s likely just opinion.

Seems like a Patrick McCaw situation

  18. cabezon8

SMH I know the luxury tax is gonna fuck us up I wish we could just keep building like we always have been and invest in our young guys

  19. East-Traffic5325

I don’t even think the Warriors themselves know what direction they want to go in. TBH the mistakes the Warriors made in the 2020 and 2021 draft classes are going to fuck the Warriors hard for the next few years fr.

  20. Austincow

    If it ain’t for #1 or 2, I don’t want them

  21. chibithug

it could be JoKu for Dereck Lively, who may be ready to contribute and fills a need at the 5. also, just spitballin here, but i think Kerr is probably not a fan of JoKu’s attitude re: not getting playtime, even if I can see where Kuminga is coming from

  22. Daconvix

The only way I feel like this would make sense is if they plan to package the pick with some players for another big deal. Otherwise I don’t get the point of this

  23. dadadadante

This brings up two pivotal issues for this offseason.

1.) How much longer the FO is willing to pay the massive luxury tax?

Winning solves everything and justified running it back this year, but, after an underwhelming season and the core getting another year older, how long do they keep paying.

Trading Kuminga for a high pick resets the timer on the rookie contract so they can avoid paying up for Kuminga in two years.

2.) Spacing issues with the front court:

Dray and Loon being complete non threats on offense makes roster construction a lot harder. These playoffs showed the limitations of playing them together.

With both Dray and Loon as key parts of the rotation, it’s hard to promise Kuminga a significant role. Do the Warriors pivot from one of Dray/Loon or try to flip Kuminga for a someone who can play next to Dray/Loon.

  24. Chemical-While5646

Lol this team is going to shit. Nothing makes sense anymore. Trade a rookie for an even bigger rookie. I feel like the whole staff got punched by Draymond or something, they all confused lmao. Like if you want to compete so bad and not develop younger players, just get the proven ones who are actually in the NBA smh.

  25. AJC3317

Trading kuminga would be the most idiotic move this franchise had made in a long time

  26. FutureRaifort

Fuck no. Fuck this. It’s all over y’all, Bob is gone and we’re stupid

  27. Dynasty_30

There’s no way this is actually true
