“It’s no fun to trade a player as good as Siakam, especially when you’ve seen him grow exponentially since you drafted him, but it’s less fun to watch your best player’s trade value lower while your championship equity doesn’t rise.”

>All of which is to say Siakam’s share of the offence wasn’t especially big for a player of his status, yet his efficiency was not very good, either. Unless his 3-pointer volume or free-throw attempts go way up, there isn’t an especially obvious way for that to improve, which caps the potential of any Siakam-centric offence, even if new coach Darko Rajaković re-orients it.
>Most crucially, barring a huge leap from Barnes, we’ve seen a reasonable sample now of what this team looks like. There are ways to prune around the core — and changing the coach is one of those ways — but through two seasons, a half-court offence led by Siakam and VanVleet has been abysmal.
>Siakam, though, is about to get more expensive, and there is no real evidence the Raptors are going to be in position to win at a high level in the next few seasons.

Blistering insight from Koreen as usual. How does he do it?

Trading siakam opens up so many opportunities for a retool into a younger developing team. The expectations for success are traded away with him, and I don’t think this team would be much worse without him 🤷♂️

Siakam is a very good player but will be paid the same amount as jokic with a supermax. Its why the max contract is kinda dumb in the nba. Like beal for example. Paying a what 15-20 player the same as the jokic and giannis of the world is not going to work. You see boston in this situation with brown. The only way it works is if you also have a top 5 player. Best to get a good return for him now. As we will see with the return for beal it will not be good with a bad contract

Ok Koreen I see you. Normally I think you’re annoying.

Articles like this assume that the Raptors aren’t always angling for the best deals possible, and that players like Siakam are untouchable. In fact, after last year, hard to know if Barnes is untouchable any more for the right price.

If we can get Scoot for Siakam you do it

Gotta see what happens with Fred first. I want to see Scottie-Pascal-OG-Gary-Jakob, no idea what you do about the bench though
