Is It Time For The New York Knicks To Go Star Hunting? With Howard Beck

Is it time for the New York Knicks to go star hunting?

Why isn’t Karl Anthony Towns a great fit? Would Bradley Beal elevate the Knicks to championship contention or is he ultimately not worth the price?

Gavin Schall is joined by Howard Beck to break that down plus the All-NBA wing that no one is talking about that could sneakily be available.

  1. We need frontcourt help. We need more scoring from da 4 and 5. Without losing defensive efficiency. KAT not great on D. But if we can keep Robinson 2 come off bench, it'll be a good complement 2 KAT.

  2. When IQ looked like he could be our starting PG,What did they do? (Signed their CAA guy Brunson)…. When Cam looked like he was our guy,What did they do?(They traded for their CAA guy Josh Hart)… So now that Beal,Levine & Kat is available,What will they do??? (U see where im going?)

  3. Due to the new CBA, if we want a true superstar/max, $50 million+ star, then we HAVE to get at least a $40 million player this year. One scenario I can see happening: RJ becomes Lavine this summer, then when Dallas implodes, we send Lavine there for Luka..

  4. No one wants towns, he is t the guy, I would stay with Mitchell, get Beal yo sure up the 2 spot, trade RJ and try to go out and get PG13 to put with randle and Brunson.

  5. I think one of the worst trades we can make is trading for KAT. He is on a supermax deal and yet, he is getting injured increasingly more often despite being relatively young, and has a history of major underperformances in the playoffs, similar to Randle. If we trade Randle and a package of picks and some young player for KAT, we get the same bad playoff performance but also injuries and we blow up our cap space.

  6. Should the Knicks trade for a superstar? YES.. but the right fit with Brunson and not gutting the team and the system under Thibs
Are Randle and RJ both part of our future? Probably not both. I would expect us to trade one or another in a package for a superstar. RJ I will happier to keep than Randle, though
What to do with IQ? He could very well be part of that package as he is our best player on the rookie contract vs. Grimes, Obi, etc. If he isn't part of the package, we still might have to trade him because he will put us over the cap.

  7. I like Beck's take on us being patient and trading for the RIGHT star. The issue is that our picks start converting starting next summer and then you lose them because if you pick some rookie it's not necessarily the player the other team would want. So, we have this window of now until lottery next summer. I suspect that a lot of teams will not look to trade their superstars yet but start the year and see where it goes. If things don't work out, some superstars might be on the trading block before the deadline this winter vs. now. Guys like Luka, Giannis, Embiid , maybe Kahwi and PG13 – these teams are not yet ready to blow it up BUT if they start off slow and there is no hope, they might pull the plug at the deadline vs. waiting for 2024 when all these UFAs become available.

  8. I think Zion could be an interesting option. His only issue is body weight and conditioning. If he keeps his weight in check, he shouldn't be a big injury risk. And Knicks have one of the best fitness programs in the league. Maybe if you pair him with Thibs, he keeps him motivated to keep his weight in check and RJ might be a draw to Zion. A healthy Zion is exactly what we need – a high efficiency, high volume scorer that gives a ton of physicality and that matches really well with Brunson. We still will need 3pt shooters but it should be easier to acquire. The issue is of course the price – i would not pay a superstar package for him (meaning randle + young player + 4-5 first round picks). I would be interested in it if it's Randle and 1-2 first round picks.

  9. RJ has been a good to great defender every year except this one, has shot 40% from 3 in a season, and is 1 inch shorter then PG. Id be happy with PG next to him but saying hes never gonna be close to that guy is ridiculous hes gotten better every year. His fg% and shooting off the dribble improved this year as well. He doesnt have to be prime PG to be a great wing in this league
