Potential Obi trade I think we should consider

Why we would do it: Obi clearly dosent really fit in this system. He’s gonna be a free agent next off season and I doubt he resigns. He’s gonna be traded this year whether you like it or not. This also gets us into the draft which is nice. RoCo obviously isn’t as good as he once was but he fits what we need in that backup PF role very well: 12-14 minutes of solid 3&D.

Why the Clippers would do this: Didn’t play him at all this year and with his contract expiring I doubt he reaigns there. They get fresh legs at the PF position with Obi which would be a gamble but if it dosent pay off it’s not like they played the guy they traded for him anyways. They also get to clear up some cap.

Is RoCo that appealing to be the backup 4? What are his stats both on offense and defense?

I don’t love this deal but it’s not terrible. Chances are high he’s dealt and this is exactly the kind of deal I would see going down. Like you said, Covington fits the 15 minutes a game perfectly, Obi gets to play and we have a pick. Not bad at all OP. So many dumb trades I see and this is well thought out and realistic.

Pretty sure Robert Covington is washed these days and his career is coming to an end. I’d much rather we go get Yuta for cheap

Seems like a fair deal. I think like most fans I’d rather see obi in a package for a star but we could do worse than a suitable replacement on an expiring deal and another first. I still think if he’s given a chance obi can make this look like a steal by the clippers but we have to operate with the situation as it is.

This isn’t too bad. I’m just worried that Covington is washed

I mean sure Covington would be an upgrade over Obi, but realistically it’s only a marginal difference. Obi has the potential to offer you more than what RoCo gives you currently if you just stick with him.

I feel like people are still blinded by the idea of what Robert Covington could be for your team, than what he actually has been for teams. There’s a reason why Ty Lue didn’t use him much for the Clippers last year even when he was healthy.

I won’t deny that it is a slight upgrade, but that’s it…only slight. We could probably package Obi up for someone better than Covington. Just feel like that’s a selling low kinda move, and if it’s one thing we’ve learned from this FO they don’t like to sell low.

FOTH, that’s basically a 2nd round pick, might as well just keep him.

Cov is washed, he hasn’t been good in years. I never wanted to draft Obi over Hali or Maxey, and I’m far from his biggest fan, but trading him for basically a 2nd round pick and a guy that will probably be out of the league in 1-2 years? Why? What Obi brings now is much more valuable than that even if he never plays more or grows. But at the very least he’s great insurance if we ever finally decide to trade Randle.

Covington is a really good player so this is an easy yes. Basically we get the best player (currently) + a pick for a lottery ticket

Only thing is that as a combo C/F, Naz Reid is UFA and much younger than Covington, gives you a two way presence and can spread the floor.

RoCo isn’t as good as he use to be. His reputation at that great 3/4 3D guy is gone

It’s not a terrible trade but the Clippers would be unlikely to do it. The Clippers are trying to reduce their cap obligations, not increase them. Trading for Obi comes with signing him to a new contract. Due to the new CBA, the Clippers will be trying to shed salary.

I don’t understand where we got Isiah Roby and that other guy to trade. How are we sending the clippers players that we don’t have on the roster?
