Matt Moore: Outdated 3-way trade talks between Celtics and Suns for Brogdon, Celtics interested in frontcourt players

* **Something to keep in mind with the Suns in their Beal pursuit: there’s been chatter in league circles about a separate potential three-way deal involving Boston’s reigning 6th Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon. I’ve gotten the sense those talks are now outdated (as is pretty common with a lot of league rumormongering), but it’s an interesting element to keep an eye on.**
* **Perhaps equally notable is that Boston is said to be in the market for frontcourt additions, which Deandre Ayton would certainly qualify as. (That, however, is speculative on my part.)**

Suns have had 3 guys on their radar in Collins, Brogdon, and Beal. I think they are trying to float CP3 or Ayton. Probably initially went for Collins/Brogdon, but got wind that Beal was on the cheap and made an offer.

Still think that Heat have the best offer for Beal and the Suns will pivot to a different plan. Maybe back to Brogdon/Collins.

I hope the return isn’t Ayton and though CP3 is nice, i do think we need a front-court player.

I do wonder if any Brogdon trade might end up being a 3-teamer.

If it doesn’t work out with the Suns, I could see the Clippers having interest in Brogdon. They have a bunch of expiring contracts and the 30th and 48th picks to send to a 3rd team.

Ayton as our starting center would be a interesting move. Unlike out other centers he has no availability issues and brings some level of scoring ability outside of 3s/lobs

Suns want Beal, so any trade for Brogdon won’t come after that is concluded, and only if Beal goes to Miami, would anything happen here.

That being said, Brogdon for Ayton is interesting thought exercise.

On the one hand, Brogdon is clearly a better player.

On the other hand, with the new CBA, and the questions in our front court, the fact that Brogdon just played the most games he’ll probably ever play, now would be a good opportunity to move on from him if you think you can find a player who is a bit more additive to the Jays.

Brogdon for all his gifts is more of an incredible insurance policy for when one of the Jays doesn’t have it, he doesn’t really fit well with Jaylen at all, too much overlap of skills, and same glaring weaknesses.

White Smart Brown Tatum Ayton is an interesting 5 to think about.

A very talented and versatile group.

A group that also probably needs a hard ass coach or assistant coach or some kind of authority figure to keep them focused and composed and lessen the erratic tendencies.

Wonder if Brad would have any interest in Porzingis (assuming he opts in)
