Why we should trade for Porzingis

I realize a lot of people are nervous about adding another injury-prone big. But he has clearly taken massive strides and [all of the advanced stats agree](https://imgur.com/a/E0luAEL) he is a top-5 Center in this league.

[Here is a comparison ](https://imgur.com/a/pfClWzu) of our two centers, Porzingis, Bam & Turner. You can clearly see that while Bam & Turner have plateaued the past few years, Porzingis has had his best season ever.

[He was 2nd in minutes](https://imgur.com/a/Q7dVuol) among this group last year and has played almost the exact same number of minutes as Rob over the past 3 seasons, and 80% of what Turner had.

Assuming the trade involved Brogdon, Williams & PP, we are giving up enough cap to also get Delon Wright, a 6″5 guard who is a great passer ([16th in the leauge in passer rating this year](https://craftednba.com/player-traits/passing)) and is much better defensively than either Brodgon or PP. He is 31 and an expiring so presumably the Wizards would be willing to move him too.

A 3rd Team would have to be involved for Brogan presumably, and the C’s would have to give up additional firsts (I will let you armchair GMs debate how many). [But this is roughly what it would look like cap-wise](https://imgur.com/a/IKb2Q6V). FiveThirtyEight’s [build a team thing](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-trades-2022/) (based on 2022 data) says this trade would bump up the champion odds from 27% to 41%, and this was prior to Porzingi’s breakout year.

Anyway please let me know what you think 🙂

    On paper, I agree that Porzingis would be a great fit. I’d also love to see Delon in green.

    But you left out a key stat—usage rate. Porzingis was 3rd among East centers in usage last season:
    * 3. Porzingis – 27.2%
    * 4. Adebayo – 25.1%
    * 6. Turner – 22.5%
    * 49. Horford – 11.9%
    * 51. Williams – 11.3%

    For context, Jayson and Jaylen had usage rates of 31.9% and 30.7%, respectively. Brogdon finished third on the team with 22.3%—and he effectively had full run of the second unit.

    Porzingis had a tremendous season, but he was heavily utilized on a tanking team. He’s also become used to playing in a star role, and we’d be asking him to act as a sort of glorified two-way roleplayer. There just isn’t enough ball to go around. I don’t think it’s realistic to imagine his production and play style seamlessly integrating into this Celtics team.
