WHY DID THE HORNETS LEAVE CHARLOTTE FOR NEW ORLEANS?

In today’s #shorts we’ll take a look back to 2002, when George Shinn’s decision to move the Hornets from Charlotte to New Orleans was met with mixed emotions and controversy. Shinn, the owner of the team, cited financial difficulties and a lack of support from the city of Charlotte as primary reasons for the relocation. The move came as a shock to many fans in Charlotte who had supported the team for years and felt a deep connection to the Hornets. The decision left a void in the basketball community and created a sense of betrayal among fans who had invested their loyalty and passion in the team. New Orleans, a city known for its rich basketball history, welcomed the arrival of the Hornets with open arms. The move was seen as a positive development for the city’s sports scene, as it brought back NBA basketball after a long absence since the departure of the Jazz.
