No kidding – he needs to pick up some offense (in addition to the dunk) to be truly useful…

  2. MacDaddyJones

He’s an elite roaming defender and rim runner (albeit made of glass). Post moves don’t need to be his thing.

Remember when we would let Perk “go to work” a few times a game? And he would just throw a trebuchet at the hoop? Yeah, we don’t need that happening.

  3. Ghostlounger

Heard it here first, he needs to start shooting 3’s! Has a great stroke from midrange

There’s a lot of truth to what Gary is saying. I like Rob, but it’s clear that after these last two seasons we need to bolster the C position with an additional playable big man. Rob is too unreliable health-wise to count on for an entire season and post season run. There’s a place for Rob though on this team.

  5. BRFCarter

I think that’s fair criticism. Whose fault that is I don’t know.

  6. daft_dunkwwwolfey

You would think the celtics would try to give him more confidence as an offensive threat. He’s got a little push shot and a jumper. He’s not horrible at FT. But it always looks like he’s told to not look to score much. It would be a huge benefit if he could be confident in taking a handful of paint attempts. Sometimes they forget about him and it’s 4v5 on offense

  7. Kyljani

Honestly the Celtics don’t run any offense through the post to begin with so expecting him to be some great post scorer is kinda unrealistic

  8. GhostOfJiriWelsch

Kind of unfair to say he hasn’t developed one when that’s probably very far down on their list of priorities for him. Staying healthy and being the defensive wrecker and a lob threat is what we need first and foremost.

And it’s not like he hasn’t shown flashes. He’s got great touch around the rim already.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by some of Rob’s offensive moves after rebounds during the playoffs.

Normally he gets a board and kicks it out, but he made some moves and went back up multiple times.

  10. jpmullet

He’s one of my favorite guys but it seems like he just can’t stay healthy enough to be the monster he was becoming

  11. uncriticalthinking

Still worth him working post moves for a summer…what’s baffling about these celts is they don’t seem to address shortcomings In The off-season.

  12. Taranpreet123

That’s not what he’s here for, but he already showed great flashes of offensive aggressiveness this post season. I’d say he could do great in the future, he just needs to be healthy

Kinda hard to evaluate RW when:

    1. Celtics don’t use him in their ISO ball and 3s for dreams scheme.

    And…

    2. He don’t shoot 3s to be used like Hordford from the arch…

Pundits want to evaluate RW, have C’s run a traditional fundamental BB scheme and THEN eval all of them… Including the J’s…

  14. pass_ball

Huh? It is Robert Williams’ fault.

    He is a good passer.

  15. AirJordan6124

No one wants to hear this but Timelord’s peak and playstyle is peak Deandre Jordan

  16. ecclectic_collector

dont think post moves are what we’re looking for from Rob. Also considering the knee injury he was coming off of last year and into this year, post moves are the last thing to focus on. He needs to continue to regain the bounce he had so he can go back to being more of a shot blocking threat on the perimeter

  17. SaveHogwarts

    Oh fuck off Gary.

He was an end of the first round, absolute PROJECT of a big man.

The fact that we’re getting anything out of him in general is huge, for starters. Secondly, it’s the Celtics fault he was injured, missed camps, could get in a normal routine, and hasn’t consistent enough game reps to work on the shit he’s been practicing?

Anywho, there is a LOT of video of Williams practicing the shots he’s comfortable with, and he has a much better touch and feel for the game than he’s being given credit for.

Centers I would be okay with getting a post up over running a play for a perimeter Celtic:

    1) Jokic

    2) Embiid (Even then I’d rather just give him the ball at the nail)

    3) KAT (If it’s not the playoffs)

    4) Valanciunas (If he’s being guarded by Poeltl)

    End of list

  19. bourgewonsie

This sub gets so triggered when any criticism is leveled at Rob like damn where’s this energy when there’s criticism towards JT/JB/Smart/Joe? Both things can be true, that Rob does what he already does well, and that Rob can also do more and use the threat of being a better scorer to open up opportunities for himself and for his teammates. But no, because Rob is some untouchable golden boy, anything negative about him is blasphemy 🤣 make it make sense

  20. Fuckblackhorses

Has he ever even had a healthy offseason? Dude is just constantly hurt, how is it the Celtics fault if he doesn’t know a post move?

  21. astonedgazelle

Some post moves would be nice, but fuck give me a consistent 12 foot jumper! How he hasn’t developed either of these things isn’t great by the Celtics organization

  22. Special-Cat-5480

Hasn’t developed a post move nor a jumper. Rob by now in his development should have a go to move in order for him to be the player we need. This is Rob’s ceiling, a couple of lobs, 5-7 rebounds, a couple of blocks a game for 20-25mins in 40-50 games played a season. Nothing more, nothing less. We should be looking to reduce Time Lord to a bench/role playing role and nothing more. We need a starting center and it’s not Big Al.

  23. danorcs

Cs fans are split into two age groups – the older always want their center to have post moves ala McHale. The younger watching specialist post players wash out so hard after drafting want their rim running bigs to shoot threes

We always love a bit of post play, but it’s not on timelord. JT needs to take a leaf from his Kobe dictionary and focus on his post play (which is so pretty when it works)

  24. BillievDat

Finally somebody says it. We need 5 capable scorers otherwise you get Tatum and Brown turning the ball over.

  25. kpopvapefiend

If he’s ever going to be a consistent 30mpg player, hes gonna have to punish smaller defenders from time to time when he has a mismatch. Hes shown a few flashes of this, and i think with a healthy off-season, he can continue to develop.

If Rob can become a guy that gives you an ultra efficient 12-14ppg, and occasionally creates his own shot, it would solve so many of the Celtics problems.

Rob is also low key an excellent passer. I’d like to see him get the ball more in general. I think he’s capable of being a legit two way player, if he can ever stay healthy of course

  26. Adam0529

Gary is such a toxic media manipulator. Never stops stirring for clicks.

    Ok genius

Name a 5 y and under big vet , who you have seen doing a post move.

Then add his salary next to his name.

  27. thereal_kphed

Dude is unbelievable when he’s healthy…I agree we need a big but it seems silly to throw rob under the bus like he hasn’t been productive on the court.

  28. Plastic_Database_645

Go post up a PG position. Dribble dribble. Then quick hook shot. Jesus how hard could that be?
