0 chance Pop didn’t immediately fall in love with this kid.

I finally figured out who he reminds me of, at least mentally: Alex Honnold. The rock climber, most famous for the documentary “Free Solo” where he climbed El Capitan without ropes or any other safety devices.
When people ask Alex understandable questions, normal questions like “aren’t you afraid of falling” or “how do you get over your fears?” he understands, in the purely intellectual sense, what they are saying, but it’s like his mind just doesn’t compute those things when he is climbing. He’s thousands of feet in the air and he doesn’t worry about falling. So his answers are like “well yeah, I’m afraid of falling, but it doesn’t affect what I’m doing.”
It’s like Wemby is aware of all these things — all this pressure, all these expectations, comparisons, whatever — but he doesn’t let them alter what he does. This noise is going on and he hears it, but it doesn’t impact him or change what he’s doing. Wemby, like Honnold, is aware of the emotions involved, but he doesn’t allow it to alter his mental gameplan.
In another post on here someone asked what his best attribute was. I said it’s what’s between the ears. This interview solidifies that answer for me.

How even is this kid just 19?! He’s like genuinely introspective, wise, all that…and just so secure in what he is and what he’s going to do. I wanna be like him when I grow up, and I’m more than a decade older lol we don’t know how lucky we are as Spurs fans

I was always impressed with Wemby’s tape last year but it was his hour long interview that shocked me most, the kid is wired differently

The way he speaks, very mature for a kid who has had the spotlight on him for a few yrs and especially this past year with all the media coverage. Perfect fit here in San Antonio
FireBeeChin
Incredibly mature. Some people have the talent to do great things but not the mindset. Some have the mindset but not the talent. He has both, so glad the Spurs have the opportunity to draft him.
