Oh boy. Dudes got crazy upside but last time we tried this with KPJ and we know how that went.

  2. Who is this Emoni Bates kid and why are people excited over a 2nd rounder?

Emoni Bates was a very hyped HS prospect who burst onto the scene as a 6’8 14 year old (now 6’10)

He was supposed to be a one and done lotto pick so what happened?

He wanted to stay close to home and committed to Michigan State but ended up at Memphis, where he was asked to play WAY out of position at PG (shows his skillset that they thought he could play there)

He then transfered even closer to home Eastern Michigan where he played his more natural ‘wing’ position

Then he was arrested on gun charges

Looks a lot like a KPJ or MPJ high risk high reward wing

Like MPJ his best assets are his size and his jumper, like KPJ there are serious maturity questions about his ability to be a pro and not a distraction off the court

If he hits he will likely be a corner spacer on offense who can attack the basket off of closeouts

He has length but other than that poor defensive assets (esp BBIQ)

He would be pretty exciting as is a wing that can shoot and possesses the length to be a plus team defender (will never be a good 1 on 1 defender due to lack of strength and quickness)

Hoping the Cavs snag him in the 2nd

He’ll probably get picked by another team taking a shot on him before our second rounder comes around

  4. If he goes undrafted, I’d take a flier on him. I just don’t think his attitude or athletic ability (or lack there of) fits the team for us to waste a pick on him.

  5. Way too much of a defensive liability. He just doesn’t have the motor to be a great player, he gives much more effort offensively than he does defensively.

It just takes so much for a guy with his pedigree to drop as far as he did. If he hasn’t improved in years, why would we assume he will now?
