Should have been traded at the deadline. If he wasn’t going to get playing time last year when Randle wasn’t playing well, and he obviously wasn’t going to get any this year when Randle was All-NBA, then what is his spot on the team?
At some point you gotta rip the band aid off and make a decision. If the decision is to keep Randle then keep Randle, but you can’t keep jerking over Obi either. That’s just not good roster management. Not that it excuses going at coaches, but this is what happens when you don’t actually make a decision and just leave it sitting there cause you’re too scared to commit. Let him go play somewhere that he’ll get to play if you’re riding with Randle, or trade Randle if guys in the front office love Obi that much. But if you keep leaving it like this you’ll just kill whatever value you might have moving him whenever he decides it’s time to force the issue. The fact it took 3 years for something to come out is a surprise.

I think Wes deserves a large portion of the blame here because apparently he was massively overvaluing Obi in trades. There’s no point in being stubborn and overvaluing someone when we’re never going to give him the opportunity to showcase his talents and improve his value, just cut your losses and take what you can get.

All you guys talking about character this and mismanagement that. Are we watching the same guy? When obi gets extended minutes we get killed on the boards and he’s absolutely lost on defense. We. Are. A. Hustle/second chance. Team. He has highlight athleticism and gets a transition dunk or nice lob from time to time but he’s a stretch big with no post presence or rebounding skills.
I don’t agree with turning him into a spot up shooter exclusively, but like it’s gonna be year 4 and dude still makes a lot of mistakes. I get maybe he’s been under the gun since day one but you have to sink or swim when the lights are on. He just hasn’t shown enough to warrant 15-20 a night when the guy he’s supposed to replace plays at an all nba level.
