Since the trade sending him to the Grizzlies broke around midnight EST, Smart could easily have gone to sleep without knowing he was about to be traded or just knowing the Brogdon trade fell through.
I imagine waking up to news that the team you had been with since 2014 seemingly traded you out of nowhere would be pretty surreal.
Edit: to lend some support to this, Smart is apparently big on getting a good night’s rest:

Marcus Smart has been one of my favorite players since before he was even drafted. Just love his style of play all around. Does so much and is not appreciated nearly enough.
I honestly think the Celtics will regret trading. Heart and soul of that team for a long time. Sets the tone with his hustle and toughness.
I don’t expect anyone to agree with that take but I truly believe it.

Smart is everything a team wants from their players. He is not the best player but no one will argue with you that he was the Celtics heart and soul.
This is why as a Boston player I would think twice to risk my body for the team as the FO showed that they are cold blooded as hell. This respect thing goes two ways and if the FO doesn’t respect you with at least telling you in advance that we could ship you, than as a player you shouldn’t give a shit too.
