[Himmelsbach] New: Sources said Marcus Smart was completely shocked by last night’s trade and is still trying to process it today. “Marcus loves Boston. He thought he was going to retire there. He wanted to retire there.”

This sucks man. I’m not saying we didn’t need a change or that this trade is bad but on an emotional level, This really sucks. I wanted to see the JB/JT/Smart core win the chip together so badly.

Marcus epitomized what it meant to be a Boston Celtic and it’s really hard to see the heart and soul of this team, the longest tenured player on this team be traded away. I hope he comes back to Boston man

This is just twisting the knife 🙁

  4. BobSacamanosRatHat

    Bad vibes.

Porzingis had better fucking show up in the playoffs, especially on defense.

The thought of having to go through a defensive slog series against Milwaukee, Philly, and Miami without Marcus is fucking terrifying.

Marcus Smart was my favorite Celtic and I want that 36 in the rafters, but that being said, Brad Stevens is a GM and this is a BUSINESS. GM is the most cold-blooded role in the front office and Brad just showed he has what it takes. This was a mega score for us, and who says Marcus won’t retire here someday?

God damnit, why did I need to see this. That’s depressing.

  7. holographoc

Yeah go ahead and twist the fucking knife

  8. BaileyHistory

Bring him back when he’s a free agent

  9. Washableaxe

Fucking Jaylen Browns fault. Such an overrated dingus who can’t even dribble with his left hand forced Brad to shuffle the deck. I’m upset.

Me too, Marcus. Me too. God damn I’m going to miss this guy so much.

Maybe a hot take but as a Pats fan when Brady left I wasn’t even 10% as crushed as I am about Smart getting traded

This is the most shocked I’ve been by a trade in my lifetime. Last time I was this pissed off was when we traded Antoine for Raef LaFrentz, but you at least knew that might be coming (even though you knew it was going to suck). This thing just blindsided everybody, even our beloved Marcus. Dude deserved so much better than this. It’s a million times worse than trading IT imo.

Big things tend to happen when you lose to an 8 seed and get completely outplayed by a bunch of undrafted scrubs. Not to mention repeatedly falling short and not learning from your mistakes by losing in a similar way year after year.

Sucks it had to happen. I’ve always loved and defended smart. If we win a title without him it wont quite feel the same. And I hope he comes back one day to retire as a celtic. But i understand it. This team needed a significant shake up and needs to be taken out of their comfort zones. Trading smart is certainly one way to do that

No shit, the guy bleeds green. It fucking sucks

Ugh this just makes me sick to my stomach. The Gardens gonna erupt when Memphis comes here

  16. Shovelman2001

Hope he’s willing to come back down the line. Really sad.

This shouldn’t be too surprising. When the Clippers pulled out, Brad needed a 3rd team at the last minute before a KP opt-out and the Grizzlies clearly wanted Smart (really good fit). Makes sense that it was a last minute shock. Of course Marcus Smart should have been given more notice but this developed too quickly it seems.

Technically, he can still retire as a Celtic. He’ll just have some years with another team before then.

  19. SameOldiesSong

Damn this trade. There’s 30 teams in the NBA and only one wins a title every year (and I think the Celtics were on the verge of doing so with Smart). If you watch sports only for the championships, you’re going to have a pretty miserable sports experience.

Smart is one of those players that you enjoy sports for. Watching him shipped out so unceremoniously for a rental hurts so bad.

  20. WarPuig

RIP “Brad must’ve talked to the players about a trade” cope.

  21. JaylenBrownFlow

i feel bad for him easily one of the most loved players and a just a great person

  22. _canadianbacon

Man if this trade doesn’t result in at least a finals appearance then the front office is gonna get ripped a new one next off-season

  23. celtics2022

The organization has made the gamble, if it doesn’t work out…man I don’t know what to say😅

  24. astarisaslave

This is so bittersweet. I’m excited for Porzingis but devastated to see Smart go. I forgave all his bullshit on offense because he accepted a bench role, hustled his ass off on defense and just overall set the tone. And he loved this city too, not like those meathead “superstars” who paint it like the most racist city in America, as if the South doesn’t exist. I wanted hin to retire a Celtic too.

I’m also a Grizzlies fan but I hope if/when we go to the Finals next year it’s not them we face. Guy knows this team like the back of his hand.

  25. PM_DOLPHIN_PICS

This hurts so fucking bad man. Nobody loves this city more than Smart. He would have never left this place of his own volition. Man is an honorary townie.

  26. grabexiaugh

Sign him back after his contract ends. Fuck me man

  27. normhimself

😭😭😭😭I have a feeling this was the wrong move. There are certain guys you don’t touch, Marcus was the heart of this team.

  28. SongYoungbae

Teams really should normalize keeping players in the loop when it comes to trades.

  29. tiakeuta

My heart hurts for him man, I really wish it could’ve been Brogdon.
